EXCLUSIVE: Evangelical Pastors Ready to Mobilize for 2014 Election, Say 'America Has Left God'

The Brody File has learned that the evangelical-based American Renewal Project will be organizing pastor policy briefings and voter registration drives across this country in 12 key states during the 2014 election cycle. It’s their latest attempt to restore America to its Judeo-Christian heritage.

Their goal is to engage pastors around issues so they will get their congregations to participate in the political process and flock to voting booths. Right now, tens of millions of evangelical Christians simply don’t vote. The states that will be targeted in 2014 are Colorado, Iowa, Louisiana, Montana, South Carolina, Alaska, Arkansas, North Carolina, Nevada, South Dakota, Virginia, and West Virginia.

In addition, The Brody File has learned that their first “Pastors and Pews” event is scheduled for the last week of May in Des Moines, Iowa. More than 400 pastors and their spouses will be on hand. Invited to speak right now: Sen. Marco Rubio, Sen. Rand Paul and Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal.

All of them are possible Republican presidential candidates. Additional speakers include Congressman Steve King, Kansas Governor Sam Brownback, Texas Gov. Rick Perry, former Congressman J.C. Watts, Congressman Tom Latham and David Barton of WallBuilders.

The American Renewal Project is housed within the American Family Association and in the past, the group has been extremely active and successful. They played an instrumental role in rallying Christians to support California’s Proposition 8, which affirmed traditional marriage. They played a significant role in removing Iowa’s three Supreme Court judges who ruled to overturn the Defense of Marriage Act. They have also been very vigorous in presidential politics; with top Republican candidates speaking at their pastor policy briefings in key swing states like Iowa and South Carolina.

The organizer of the American Renewal Project is David Lane, an influential evangelical Christian who operates below the radar with no desire to be recognized for his efforts. However, he did speak exclusively to The Brody File about this latest effort.

“If the key to maintaining sustainable freedom is righteousness -- the same virtue that produced freedom -- what is the greatest threat to freedom? Unrighteousness. America has left God.” Lane believes it’s time to remove politicians from office who have led America down this immoral and unsustainable broken path

But Lane is quick to point out that these pastor policy briefings are not so much about ousting certain politicians from office. Rather, they are meant as a way for pastors to unite over crucial issues facing society and the church at large.

Newt Gingrich, who is good friends with Lane and asked for his counsel during the 2012 presidential campaign, sees Lane’s work as crucial to America’s future.

“We’re in a fight over the very nature of America,” Gingrich tells The Brody File. “David has had a remarkable impact. I think his role is to mobilize pastors and get them to understand their legal rights and get them to understand that as citizens they have a significant role to play with their congregation.”

Gingrich says Lane is driven by the idea that evangelicals have a civic responsibility that they can’t shirk or hide from.

Lane, who has been involved in mobilizing pastors for decades, is also close with Texas Gov. Rick Perry. Their relationship goes back nearly a decade to when Lane headed up the Texas Restoration Project. He also provided spiritual and biblical counseling and encouragement to Perry during his run for the presidency. In an emailed statement to The Brody File, Gov. Perry says the following:

“While some seem intent upon driving people of faith out of debates on public policy, I believe a person’s faith gives them a more tangible view of right and wrong, and roots them in sound moral values that are essential to a healthy community. Today, more than ever, we need people of faith to make their voices heard, and provide the principled leadership to guide our nation through the tough decisions we face every day.”

Dick Bott, founder of the powerful Christian-based Bott Radio Network, has known Lane for years. He believes the issues that Americans are dealing with today are, in essence a fight between good and evil and he sees Lane as the man to spearhead the herculean effort ahead.

“I discovered that God has given him a unique gift and a zeal to organize pastors and other Christian leaders better than anyone I knew before. Others tended to 'talk' about it, but David 'got it done.' David Lane, with the help of his wife, Cindy, are single-minded in pursuing what God has given them to do with more stamina than anyone I know…He honestly believes God has called him -- and so do I.”

There’s no doubt that the American Renewal Project has proved successful in the past. They have fought back against forces that are trying to move this country away from its original Judeo-Christian framework.

As they continue that battle into 2014, there will now be an additional battle to fight. This one won’t be against liberals; rather it will be against Republicans who, in their view seem more concerned about preserving a political party instead of sustaining a moral and righteous nation.

That’s the next confrontation to watch.

This is wonderful; however, they better make sure that the voting is not rigged like we believe the last election was.

One of the most contested issues to be dealt with is the gay agenda. The homosexuality advocates are bent on forcing the homosexual ideology and lifestyle into every aspect of the American experience, including education, government, politics, health, religion, employment, and even our thought and speech. They are forcing our society to fully accept their lifestyle as morally, socially, legally, religiously, politically and financially equivalent to the heterosexual lifestyle, which it clearly is not. And this is why those of us who oppose homosexuality are becoming increasingly vocal and activist about it; we would be willing to tolerate homosexual people keeping their perversions behind closed doors where they belong, but when they take these things into the public arena and try to foist them on society in general, then we push back, and rightly so. My prayer is that they will be successful at motivating the church to vote and to vote for biblical values. We have to start being more influential than Hollywood. Some in the church don't object to Gay Marriage as they agree with the President. Pastors have to do a better job of presenting biblical values to their people. Some people in the church voted for the president because he was black regardless of his stance on Gay Marriage or Abortion they gave him a pass and some of these were pastors. Some didn't vote because they didn't want to vote for a Mormon. We have to act now or America will face judgement.

I am shocked that we continue to keep hearing this. Where is it in the Bible that we are to vote? That is driven by people with a hidden agenda to vote for a particular party that they back because of a few isolated issues.

How this for a bigger issue? How about the evangelical pastors stop denying the gifts of the Holy Spirit being in operation for today and believe the whole Bible instead of the pieces that are comfortable for them? How about acknowledging that "when that which is perfect" hasn't come yet, because if it did, the church wouldn't be so divided? How about they stop announcing that they "saved" people--as if it is a resume-builder for them--when the Bible is very clear that real transformation (heart change) is only something God can do? How about stop building their own reputations and empires and instead they focus on building God's kingdom and Name?

Then, more people will have real relationships with God and we might see change in this country. I have a dream!

Lastly, maybe if Christians truly loved one another (as Christ really commands)--instead of Christians self-protecting against everyone and everything--the church wouldn't have deteriorated to the state is has and the country, subsequently, wouldn't have deteriorated to where it has.

This is good news. One antidote for being discouraged at the results of the last election is to begin working on the next election. Hold the House and take the Senate. The previous comments are great. Voting fraud is incompatible with self-government and individual liberty. The gay movement has gotten virtually everything it wanted for years; now it only ramps up its demands in the face of Judeo-Christian tolerance. I am a gay veteran and I opposed repeal of DADT. To un-define marriage is to make it meaningless. Thanks to the radical Democrat Party, slavishly following its Dear Leader, we are on a bullet train towards moral and economic collapse. The only consolations for Christians are that the Bible predicted this and the Rapture may be near.

Not one of the Repub. officeholders will say a word at the Iowa conf. about the need 4 conserv. evangelicals 2 do more than just vote; that their civic duty, when their country is in crisis, is 2 get involved in party politics at the precinct level where they live.

The GOP is not a monolithic, changeless organization. It could be changed from the inside if evangelicals would get inside it. It has about 400k PC slots; 200k R vacant.

Can we get Gingrich & David Lane and the pastors 2 also make the pitch that civic duty also includes not just voting but also getting involved in party politics? Imagine if evangelical Christians in droves filled the vacant Repub. Party but all of the other parties, too. Imagine the eye-opening that would happen among the evangelicals who typically vote Democrat after they attended several of their local Democrat Party committee meetings -- they'd re-register as Repubs! And then go 2 their Repub. cmte. meeting!

If only they could band together to do anything; they can't get along or agree with one another on almost any subject so I don't look for much this time. They could have elected Romney except for their dislike for him being a Mormon so now we have this president back in the WH to do more damage to what these people say they believe.

Having been to one of these events, I can attest first hand that Mr. Lane puts on a first class, educational setting based in Gods word.
As a pastor, if you have an opportunity to go to one... DON'T MISS IT.
Though I have not given up on California. I view it more as a "fertile" environement for greater works.
Reality is, if Chrsitians voted Biblical values, we could overturn unrightous laws (life, restricting free speach/preaching) in one cycle. But it will take pastors understanding they hold the key.

Do and actively promote righteousness or commit the sin of omission.
Our lives consist of many things not specifically named in the Bible.
1>"Render to Ceasar what is Ceasar's and to God what is God's."
God's money applied by gov't. taxes to ungodly purposes due to not making the decisions?
2>God's command: "train up our children in the way they should go"
Who is in/with what, how long because you do not decide?
3>we are to be "salt and light"...flavor & influence our society!
How if you do not participate in the decisions affecting our culture (society)?
4>"How shall they hear without a preacher"...
"in season and out of season"...
Every believer (disciple)at all times/places being a conduit for Jesus Christ's voice & Holy Spirit's power in our society & community. Commissioned by/for God on earth.

John 5:39 Search scriptures...look at Christ's & the apostles lives/words...human physical deeds & spiritual truths. Not government! Ask &
listen to Holy Spirit & Word-ALL of!

So glad to read about this for what has been concerning me lately, almost as much as what the liberals are trying to do, is that I feel that the republicans are compromising too much. Its one thing to do so concerning things that have to do with the economy, but not with other matters like marraige, abortions, etc. They are acting like they are so afraid that people won't like them or support them again if they don't compromise. There is an old saying.......give them enough rope and they will hang themselves. Sometimes I feel that is the attitude we need to take with the liberals.
