Ted Cruz Exclusive: Calls Mainstream Media a 'Fickle Creature'

In a one-on-one interview at his home in Houston Texas, Sen. Ted Cruz tells he Brody File that the mainstream media is a “fickle creature” and that their mindset reminds him of the line in the movie "The Princess Bride" where one of the characters is told, “Good night, good job, I’ll most likely kill you in the morning.”

This interview was done this past Friday at Ted Cruz’s home in Houston. An upcoming profile on Cruz and his family will be seen on "The 700 Club" in February. It will include an interview with his wife and video of his children. Cruz is also the newsmaker in this week’s Brody File shot on location in San Antonio, Texas.

David Brody: So what do you make of all of this mainstream media attention that you’ve been getting? I mean, you see the headlines, some are a little different on MSNBC, or maybe FOX, but look, they’re calling you a ‘GOP Rock Star.’

Sen. Ted Cruz: I try to pay very little attention to the media. It is, as you know, a fickle creature. They can say anything today, and tomorrow, it can change dramatically. You know, I’m reminded of my favorite movie which is '"The Princess Bride," and in "The Princess Bride," there’s a wonderful scene, where Wesley, the protagonist in the movie, is captured by the Dread Pirate Roberts, and he has made him his cabin boy, and he spends five years with the Dread Pirate Roberts, and Wesley is recounting how everyday he would learn to sword fight and be on the ship and be learning and every night, the Dread Pirate Roberts would say to him, “Good night, Wesley. Good job.  I’ll most likely kill you in the morning.”

And that realization: "Good night, good job, I’ll most likely kill you in the morning," tongue-and-cheek in that movie is a great reminder of the media. If they happen to say something nice about you today: “Goodnight, they’ll most likely kill you in the morning.”

And so, I just try to laugh it all off and not worry about it. At the end of the day, my focus is on trying to make a difference for the principles that make this country strong, for the principles of free markets, for the principles of the Constitution, for the principles that have made this country a land of such incredible opportunity.

I mean that, the United States really is a miracle, in terms of the liberty we enjoy, the opportunity we enjoy. No place on earth has allowed so many millions of people to come from all over the world, to come with nothing and achieve anything. You know, I have to tell you as I stood on the Senate floor being sworn in, I couldn’t help but think back to 1957 to my father in Austin, Texas, and 18 year old kid, penniless, not speaking English, washing dishes.

If someone had told that 18-year-old kid that 55 years hence, his son would be sworn in as a United States Senator representing the great state of Texas, that would have been utterly unimaginable, and yet there was my father sitting in the gallery, looking down as I rested my hand on the family Bible and took the Oath of Office. It truly was breathtaking, and it’s just it’s one small example of the incredible opportunity that this country presents.

The liberal media is indeed fickle. It seems they report the sensational over truly newsworthy topics that all Americans should be aware of. Please consider blogging to help the Behenna family by-pass the liberal media who seems to largely ignore the Constituional implications of this major issue that their family has been left to fight nearly alone.
