In an exclusive interview with The Brody File, House Budget Chairman Paul Ryan says he believes the American people are so fed up with the debt crisis in this country that they’re going to reject President Obama’s vision for the future and instead side with Republicans.
“Do we want the American ideal, the opportunity society with the safety net or do we want this cradle-to-grave welfare state this sort of European social democracy in a debt crisis?” he asks.
This interview was conducted last Tuesday near Milwaukee, Wis., but The Brody File is making some clips available now. A full report will air this Thursday on "The 700 Club."

David Brody: You ready for the demonization?
Paul Ryan: I’m used to it.
Brody: You know, Paul Ryan how dare you!
Ryan: I’m so used to this now. Look, I just think people are smarter than that. I come from an area that’s not considered a big Republican area. The district I represent with for Dukakis, Clinton, Gore, and Obama, so I don’t have constituents that are all Republican.
I have constituents who, from my experience, want to be talked to like adults. They want to be told the truth. They want to know the options and the solutions. And they reward people for trying and they don’t want to be talked to like children.
I really believe we’re going to win this because the country knows that we’re at a very precarious moment in America. Do we want the American ideal, the opportunity society with the safety net, or do we want this cradle-to-grave welfare state, this sort of European social democracy in a debt crisis?
A nation in debt, doubt and decline. That’s where the president is taking us and that is the choice we are giving the country. And I think the country, the American people, they want the American idea. They know this path is not going to work and I think they’re going to reject it and pick this path.
