Rick Perry's Wife Says Husband Under Attack Because Of His Evangelical Faith

Anita Perry, the wife of GOP presidential candidate Rick Perry, says her husband is under attack from the press because of his evangelical faith.

Here’s what she said today in South Carolina:

"It’s been a rough month. We have been brutalized and beaten up and chewed up in the press to where I need this today," she said. "We are being brutalized by our opponents, and our own party. So much of that is, I think they look at him, because of his faith. He is the only true conservative – well, there are some true conservatives. And they’re there for good reasons. And they may feel like God called them too. But I truly feel like we are here for that purpose."

There’s no doubt that Rick Perry has had his share of missteps and that has contributed to his rough start. However, there is an argument to be made that evangelical candidates go through a different prism when it comes to media treatment.

The liberal-slanted media seems fascinated by a worldview they just simply can’t grasp so they write story after story about it, even though they are unprepared to discuss it or write about it. This happened with Rep. Michele Bachmann, too.

The truth is since Perrry wears his faith on his sleeve, he’s going to be under more media scrutiny on issues related to faith and politics. That’s just a fact. Is it fair? No. Is it a political reality when running for president? Yes.

It’s interesting considering you have millions of Americans who can relate to Rick Perry’s Christianity, yet the minority opinion of the media drives the conversation.

Rick Perry’s prayer warriors will be working overtime to boost their man during this rough stretch.

More here.

# RE: Rick Perry's Wife Says Husband Under Attack Because Of His Evangelical Faith

I find Anita's complaints disingenuous, and transparent. After all, Perry's campaign opened the anti-Mormon door the other day, and refuses to repudiate what it knew Jeffress would say beforehand. Indeed, according to Perry, Jeffress 'knocked it out of the park'. (When Huck tried the same thing, at least he had the good sense to pretend to be sorry. No such sentiment from Perry.)

Their strategy is clear: Use Mormonism against Romney, and send out the dog-whistle to Evangelicals. Anita doubled down on religion yesterday. This seems to be their road to Iowa.

Perry has been exposed as a candidate with little to offer, hence the religion card. Whether it works remains to be seen. The problem is that Rick isn't as smart as Huck.
