In a one-on-one exclusive sit-down interview with The Brody File, GOP presidential candidate Michele Bachmann says she can beat Barack Obama and tells the GOP establishment naysayers: “I think that people in the GOP establishment will be very happy with me as the nominee.”
The Brody File interviewed Bachmann in Waterloo, Iowa, Sunday evening before her big campaign announcement in her hometown.
Watch her answer below along with the full transcription:
David Brody: For those who underestimate you, for those that say there’s no way she can win the nomination, what do you say to those folks?
Michele Bachmann: Well of course I can win the nomination, that’s why I jumped into this race. I would never jump in if I didn’t know that I have the ability and the resources to be able to win this race.
It is my firm conviction, for America to go forward, to get on the right track, to turn the economy around, to grow jobs and to get rid of Obamacare, Barack Obama must be a one-term president. And I am the candidate who will ensure that he will be a one-term president.
Brody: There are going to be people in the GOP establishment who don’t want to see Michele Bachmann as the nominee.
Bachmann: I think that people in the GOP establishment will be very happy with me as the nominee because I will represent our party well, our nation well. I’m not a perfect person but we do serve a wonderful people in our country. The people of this country are great. And they’re great because of the goodness that’s inside of their hearts.
Alex Tocqueville wrote about that as a young Frenchman when he came to the United States. We have a wonderful Constitution. And our Declaration of Independence says it all. We have been endowed by a creator with certain inalienable rights. And among those rights are life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. Those are rights that government can’t give, and that government can’t take away. Only a Creator gives those.
And the reason why we have government in the first place is to secure the rights that God gave us. Isn’t that a brilliant creed? Isn’t that a brilliant country? Those are our founding documents. And I would be so proud, as president of the United States, to uphold the law of our land, which is the constitution of the United States and our U.S. federal code.
And that’s what I want to do. Turn our country around.
