Brody File Exclusive: Trump Says 'The door would absolutely be open' to a late run for president

In an exclusive interview with The Brody File backstage at the Faith and Freedom Coalition in Washington, D.C., Friday night, Donald Trump told me he’s still leaving the door open for a presidential run saying,

“The door would be open if the Republicans do a terrible job as they have been doing in choosing the wrong person. The door would absolutely be open,” he said.

Trump says he would have to still fulfill his 11-month contract with his NBC show, “The Apprentice,” but says there would still be time to run.

The Brody File interviewed Donald Trump backstage after his speech at Friday’s Faith and Freedom Coalition event. You can watch the interview below.

Check The Brody File for other exclusive backstage interviews including Jon Huntsman, Tim Pawlenty, Ron Paul, Congresswoman Michele Bachmann, Congressman Paul Ryan, RNC Chairman Reince Priebus and House Majority Leader Eric Cantor.

Ralph Reed’s event is an important stop for prospective presidential candidates. They’re speaking to hundreds of key GOP Primary voters, made up of both Evangelicals and Tea Party members. The Brody File calls them, “Teavangelicals.”

His Faith and Freedom Coalition organization made a huge difference at the ballot box in 2010 and they’re expecting to make an even bigger splash in 2012.

David Brody: Why come down here because you say you’re not running for president but this is kind of a presidential forum in a way.

Donald Trump: Right. I was asked by so many people, different people who are friends of mine and I’m so honored at what has happened and maybe what will happen. As you know, I was number one in the polls when I announced that I wouldn’t do it and I’m very disappointed in what the Republicans are doing.

I’m so disappointed in the way they are carrying on and the kind of decisions they are making and that’s why I signed this multi-multi million dollars contract for entertainment for 'The Apprentice' and it’s been a great success. I

t’s very hard to say I give up that show with the tens of millions of dollars that are paid and at the same time have the Republicans making all of these bad decisions. So in eleven months I’m a free agent. I’ll decide what I want to do and we’ll see. They’ll still be plenty of time.

Brody: So therefore let me ask you. The door is open a crack potentially for the future?

Trump: The door would be open if the Republicans do a terrible job as they have been doing in choosing the wrong person. The door would absolutely be open.

At first I thought having a successful businessman for a President would be what is needed here, but Trump isn't the one. I'm so over him after his profanity-laced speech. How un-Presidential! He's a blowhard, opportunist and most certainly NOT Presidential material. I think more and more people are coming to realize this. Good luck, Donald. Save your money (and ours), stick with your silly show, Celebrity Apprentice, and leave leading the country to someone with more self-control and humility than apparently you have.

Interesting interview. Thank you Mr. Brody.

Perhaps Mr. Trump had second thoughts about being a Republican Party nominee, which may be the same reasoning Huckabee and other possible candidates have had.

Sarah Palin is the only other possible candidate willing to say it openly.

And Trump is strong enough to run as an Independant. Not even Ross Perot had the same recognition.

If Trump chooses to run next year Americans will be listening. No doubt the media will make sure of this. And the voters will have the choice.

That's called living in a democracy.

He'll only get in if Republicans nominate a strong candidate who has a real chance of winning in 2012. Then he'll jump in as an "independent" to split the conservative vote. He even admitted it! He said if he ran as an Independent (not as a Republican) he would still be allowed to keep his precious NBC show! Come on, he donates to Dem pols 2:1 to Repubs. Don't forget he got clearance for his Chicago casinos with Rahm in the mayor's office. Isn't it interesting how he baited everyone with that "Show me the birth certificate Mr. President" nonsense right around the release of Jerome Corsi's book? Then that forged document is put out and steals the thunder from the controversy. So he decides not to run, BUT leaves the door open?! It's so transparent it's laughable. He doesn't care what happens to this country as long as his coffers keep filling up. Do the right thing America. VOTE FOR RON PAUL!!

Trump is a joke. He would only run to help obama...does anyone really think he could win? he is in cahoots with the obama regime. He's a wolf

Unfortunately we all know the truth, it's been repeated, Trump is possibly a brown shirt, a wolf in sheeps clothing. His election manager is suppose to be a democrat , so he cuts the oppositions vote and gives Obama the win.
We need to win the country back by putting in leaders with common sense, no real political experience, and a pure soul.
If the religious right wants to save this country, revive a faith healed country and eliminate the abominations of abortion, same sex marriage, and anti religion and reduction of morals in schools, the religious right has to lobby and support a common man, with a common cause. With faith I believe he will bring him forward.

# He knows business - but he's socialist:

Trump knows business, which definitely makes him an improvement over Obama, but he's still not a good Republican candidate because he's socialist on taxes and redistribution of wealth. He also blew it saying he'd rather do Apprentice than run for president. Even if I would have voted for him before, that scratched it imho.

What Network is going to lock in a debate between Trump and Obama? Then let the American people decide which approach will be the "ONE" that works.

It will be a real shocker for every American to see this event!

If one should run for president, it should have been a long time aspiration, since childhood, studying, being advised,....praying.....preparing. Not on a whim, for money, or fame. Republicans, can you find such a person as this? I have not seen such a one. And our country as a leader of the world, needs an exemplary one, not some egomaniac jerk, or fame-seeking flippant. God help us to find the one who can lead, be it Rep. or Dem.
