Exclusive: Rick and Karen Santorum on Their Miracle Baby

In an exclusive interview with The Brody File, Rick Santorum and his wife Karen explain the miracle of their 3-year-old daughter Bella. She wasn’t supposed to live even one year let alone three. They explain the story below.

I spoke to the soon-to-be presidential contender and his wife at their home in Northern Virginia. My television piece on Santorum’s presidential aspirations runs this Wednesday on "The 700 Club."

Watch the clip and read a small sampling of the transcript below. The answer is much longer than the transcript.

On “Bella”

David Brody: She’s beating the odds.

Karen Santorum: Yes.

Brody: What’s going through your minds?

Karen: God clearly has a plan for this child. She is so beautiful. She is a ray of sunshine in our lives.

Rick: Bella makes us better. She makes each one of us a better person... I know some people may find this hard to believe but she has gentled my condition.

Karen: She has him wrapped around her little pinky.

Rick: She’s my little sweetheart.

On the “Shake your fist at God moment”

Brody: Some people may be watching this and going where is the shake your fist at God moment?

Karen: It was after her birth and I did very much have them. I must admit. I felt like he had thrown me in the back corner of the desert and forgot about me... I think we all go through desert periods where you think ‘where are you Lord? Here I am and I need you and I feel like you’re not here.’”

Rick: And you were also angry that you felt that why would God do this to our little girl? Not just to us but why did you do this to her?

Karen: Right. I think a lot of parents go through this where they are asking the why and there is no why and once I let that go and it was a complete abandonment to our Lord, once you do that there is a peace.

Rick Santorum on Jesus redeeming our suffering

Rick: There’s no suffering in vain. It’s not suffering for suffering sake. It’s suffering because it’s part of God’s plan. It’s part of His redemption story.

# RE: Exclusive: Rick and Karen Santorum on Their Miracle Baby

Praise the Lord, my brother and sister. I thank you for being honest about your true feelings when Bella was born. Been there and done that too. Vernon Jr. was born in 1991, unlike his fellow soldiers given nine-months to develop and grow, Vernon was blessed with six. "Things don't just happen they're planned". The second our son was born weighing only two-pounds, "A spiritual soldier was born", equipped and ready for battle. Even in the military in basis training a soldier must learn how to use their weapon or else they will be defeated by the enemy. When we stop asking God why, and let God do what only He can do "the unthinkable happens" was I upset and angry, of course I was- BUT "Jesus still works". On May 5, 2011 the unthinkable happened at Fort McNair, Washington DC.PLEASE visit website "military district of washington" (MDW) To God Be The Glory, my sister in Christ! God Bless the Santorum Family! I have so much to share email me colenajones@hotmail.com so I can brag on His glory
