Brody File Exclusive: Rick Santorum Rips JFK's 1960 Religion Speech

In an exclusive interview with The Brody File, Rick Santorum criticizes John F. Kennedy’s famous 1960 speech on religion and the presidency, saying it, “ushered in an era where faith was eventually forced out of the public square.”

I spoke to the soon-to-be presidential contender and his wife at their home in Northern Virginia. My television piece on Santorum’s presidential aspirations runs this Wednesday on "The 700 Club," May 4.

Watch the clip and read a small sampling of the transcript below. The answer is much longer than the transcript. Read JFK’s 1960 speech

On JFK’s religion and presidency speech:

Rick Santorum: Kennedy ushered in an era where faith was eventually forced out of the public square that it was OK to bring any ideas unless they were motivated by faith.

Kennedy said we’re not going to allow people of faith in and that took off in the 1960’s and to the detriment of society.

David Brody: Kennedy’s speech was starting down that slippery slope.

Santorum: I would argue if you look at it historically, it was the starting gun of this movement.
