Exclusive: Rick Santorum tells Brody File He's Praying For His Enemies

In an exclusive interview set to debut tonight on The Brody File Show, Rick Santorum, the soon-to-be Republican presidential candidate has a word for his critics: he’s not a hater and says he’s praying for his enemies.

The Brody File sat down recently with both Rick Santorum and his wife Karen at their home in Virginia. This is the first TV interview Karen Santorum has done since the former senator from Pennsylvania lost his re-election bid back in 2006.

Watch the video and read a partial transcription below. (More clips coming soon.)

Liberals have criticized Santorum for years because of his in-your-face style and outspokenness on social issues like abortion, traditional marriage, and many other issues.

If and when Santorum officially runs for president, you can be sure he will exhibit that same style on the campaign trail. His opponents better be ready to be called out by name. Santorum doesn’t mess around. He’s too passionate to do it any other way.

Rick and Karen Santorum will be the focus of this week’s 30-minute Brody File Show that debuts tonight.

You can also watch my TV report on Santorum next Wednesday May 4, on "The 700 Club."

On the Critics:

Karen Santorum: It is hard. It makes me crazy when people are doing that to a man I love so much.

Ephesians Chapter 6: verses 10-20. I love that. Put on the armor of God and everyday I say that. We’re going out and it’s all about doing what you believe God wants you to do, fighting that fight and you put on the armor of God and it’s okay.

One of the hard things as a Christian is to love your enemies. I pray for those people. I pray for them and did I love them after the 2006 race? (Laughs) I can’t say I did but I tried.

Santorum Prays for His Enemies

Rick Santorum: It’s hard to do but you’ve got to do it and not just do it because God says you’re going to do it. Obviously you do it because that’s what He says to do but it does help you tremendously.

When I read all this stuff about how I hate people ‘you’re a hater, you hate this person, you hate this person because of this, you hate this person because of this.’

It’s funny these people who say that. I’m praying for these people. Now if I hated you why would I be praying for you?

But that’s how the world is. It’s broken and of course we know that and I am, too. And I wish I said I prayed for everybody all the time. I don’t. I try but I fall way short of the mark sometimes. But I know that’s what I’m supposed to do and in my better moments I do.
