President Obama Ad-Lib Leaves Out "Creator"


In a speech to the Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute last week, President Obama ad-libbed a key line from the Declaration of Independence but in the process left out the word “creator”.

The line in the Declaration of Independence goes as follows:

“We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.”

The President said the following:

“We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal [pause], endowed with certain unalienable rights:  life and liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.” (Video below)

If you look at President Obama’s prepared remarks before the speech was delivered, the Declaration of Independence line was not in there so clearly President Obama ad-libbed the line...and gets it wrong.

Conservative websites have been quick to pounce on this to possibly suggest that President Obama left the word “Creator” out on purpose. White House Deputy Press Secretary Josh Earnest tells The Brody File the following:

“The President is in full agreement with the Declaration of Independence.  Any suggestion to the contrary is just silly.”(Josh Earnest, Deputy White House Press Secretary)

Look, here’s the deal: For this President’s critics, they will look to anything to discredit his Christian faith. And indeed, President Obama has given them a nice tidy future YouTube clip that will probably spread like wildfire. But to say that he PURPOSELY left out the word “Creator” is a stretch. Some may look at his pause right at the juncture and start inserting what they think he was thinking at that point but you don't know. If you want to criticize him for not reciting one of the most important lines in American history correctly fine. Have at it. But when you start to question someone’s motives without really knowing what’s going on in their heart or mind then you become off base.  Would you like it if someone judged what was in your heart or mind? No thank you.

Seems like the pull and hold Obama has on the media is spreading to even the conservative media.

I understand your statment that it could have been a mistake. But to even think that it was not intentional is hard for me to believe. For us who love God it is written in our hearts.
