Will Passing Healthcare Reform be Democrats Undoing in November?

A quick couple thoughts on health care reform passage in the House:

No matter what you think of President Obama, Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid (and all the other major players too) you have to at least admit that getting this healthcare reform bill to the President's desk constitutes a major political accomplishment. This road had more potholes on it than a New York City street yet they managed to do it. You may hate the bill and you may think it's going to blow up in their face (and for sure the reconciliation part of this in the Senate is another huge looming battle) but they came up huge at crunch time. As time goes by I'm sure we'll find out more of the inside story on what may have been promised for certain "yes"votes but Republicans would do the same thing. Don't kid yourself.

Now the potential downside for Democrats: President Obama has said that, “ The health care bill, will end up being the smart thing to do politically because I believe that good policy is good politics."

But just one question here: if good policy is good politics, what is bad policy? Bad politics?

Since the majority of Americans think this specific healthcare reform plan is bad policy, the politics for the Democrats could end up being very bad for them in November. A majority of Americans agree that healthcare reform is needed but this huge bill wasn't necessarily what they had in mind.

Another observation: The Democrats and the liberals always complained about the arrogance of George W. Bush but by insisting on this type of healthcare reform bill, one that a majority of Americans have been saying they are against for quite some time, there will be those who say this move smacks of major arrogance on the part of Democratic leadership. The message seems to be this: I know you have some concerns about this bill but trust us. We know better.

By the way, on a separate but somewhat related note: how is Bart Stupak sleeping tonight? My guess he is sleeping like a baby while pro-lifers will have a restless night. With that in mind, please vote for the character below that best represents how you feel about Bart Stupak when it came to his crucial deal making with The White House on Sunday. As The Brody File said all along ( way before the mainstream media) it came down to abortion. They wouldn't have had the votes if Stupak and the boys didn't agree to the last second deal. Here are your choices for Stupak ( choices for both conservatives and liberals)

Choice 1: Benedict Arnold
