President Obama took part in a piece of official, annual White House business today... pardoning the turkey.
This year, the lucky turkey was "Courage," a 45 pounder from Goldsboro, N.C.
Daughters Malia and Sasha Obama joined Dad for the ceremony on the North Portico of the White House. The President joked that he was going to eat the turkey until the girls intervened.
A few loud "gobbles" could be heard from the grateful big bird. They were so loud, I was wondering if the turkey was wearing a microphone!
The President brought about laughter several times during the ceremony, especially with this comment:
"You know, there are certain days that remind me of why I ran for this office. And then there are moments like this (laughter) where I pardon a turkey and send it to Disneyland."
