Joshua DuBois Exclusive Interview: Hiring Protection Issue

Joshua DuBois, head of The White House Office of Faith Based and Neighborhood Partnerships sits down for an exclusive one on one interview with The Brody File.

I interviewed him in his hometown of Nashville this past weekend. I’ll be doing an in depth personal profile piece on Joshua DuBois later this month on The 700 Club. I talk to his parents as well. But because we love to provide the vast Brody File audience (all twelve of you) some preview clips, I’ve decided to post eight excerpts from the interview. Aren’t you lucky?

In this clip,I ask DuBois about the sensitive and controversial subject of hiring protection. Should faith groups be able to hire whoever they chose (and reject those of a different faith) if they are receiving federal dollars?

Joshua Dubois “It’s a challenging issue with a lot of different sort of legal intricacies and the President thinks that as opposed to doing something sweeping that we should really address this and other difficult legal issues that the faith based office will encounter on a case by case basis. So if there’s a question about an individual grantee or an individual program he’s asked me to work with the White House Counsel and the Attorney General to explore that and then to present recommendations to him and so that’s the way it will start. A lot of folks on both sides of this issue want something more sweeping but the President really wants to understand the intricacies of both the issue of co-religious hiring but also all the other issues related to the faith based office and make decisions on the basis of facts and law and policy as opposed to on politics.”
