Will President Obam push for repeal of The Hyde Amndmnt? If he does, it’ll be all-out war between pro-lifers and pro-chicers. There’s been no full fledged indication that this is a fight the admnistration is willing to have but with a pro-choice President and a heavily Democratic Congress the chances of a potential fight in Congress are higher.
The Hyde amndmnt has been in place since 1976 and is a provsion that bars the use of federal funds for abortion.
I asked Melody Barnes about this. She’s The White House Dom/st1 :personname>estic Policy Council Director.
Brody: Does the president believe in repealing the Hyde Amendment? Where is he on that exactly?
Barnes: I haven't had that conversation with the president, so I don't have an answer for you on that. I haven't looked at his voting record or if he's voted on that issue, and that would be a place to start. We haven't had that conversation, but I'm sure in the days and weeks ahead that we will.
More on how the pro-choice community feels about the hyde amendment here. The pro-life take is here.
