Let the conversation begin. Melody Barnes, White House Domestic Policy Council Director tells the Brody File that the specifics of whether or not abortions will be covered under a government healthcare plan has not been decided yet because the conversation hasn’t taken place yet with Congress. Her answer is above. Part of the transcription is below:
Melody Barnes: “We haven’'t proposed a specifics benefits package or a particular healthcare proposal so we’re going to be engaging with Congress to have this conversation.”
Brody: So it hasn’t been decided yet at this point?
Barnes: We haven’t had that conversation yet
In the past, President Obama has made clear that reproductive care is central to his healthcare plan. A short video clip is here. The question now is will that reproductive care include abortions as well? I think the pro-choice community is expecting no less. Will The White House push this as a non-negotiable or will they cede that ground? We just don’t know at this point.
