I just came from Robert Gibb's first White House briefing. Gibbs was really pushed by reporters here on how on earth does closing Guantanamo Bay really keep America safer? Expect the pushback to get deeper and louder.
Other news:
President Obama will keep his blackberry. He'll be limited in his contacts and security for it will be enhanced. Better watch what he types. They'll be part of the official records. Be careful before you hit that send button
Also, a big deal was made over the re-swearing in of President Obama. The press was in a tizzy because they wanted more access rather than have it done quickly with a print pool and a White House released still. Sounds a little trivial to me. By the way, Obama didn't use The Bible for his re-swearing in but there's nothing in the Constitution that says he has to. Would it have been a nice to do again? Sure but I think this falls under the "don't sweat the small stuff" category.
Finally, Gibbs announced that President Obama will receive an economic daily briefing similar to his daily intelligence briefing. This is smart on a couple levels. Obviously it gives the President a daily accounting of economic news but it is good optics. It shows to the American people that this administration means business on the economy.
