Ok, here’s some more. What a really big mess. This Roland Burris fiasco is must see TV and the show really gets hopping Tuesday.
Burris is going to show up to be sworn in and Harry Reid and the boys have different ideas. They want Burris to literally go away. I can’t wait to see the cable coverage on this. We’ll have “Burris cam” or maybe a big banner on the bottom of the screen that says, “Breaking News: Locked Out”.
You can argue whether Burris should be seated or not. But the bottom line here is this really makes the Democrats look bad. First of all, they may not have a constitutional right to do this. Secondly, it’s an ugly spat within your own party played out on national TV. And third of all, Burris is African American and this whole situation may not be racial in nature but how good does it look when fifty plus white Senators are barring the man who would be the only black Senator? Bad optics. Very bad optics.
Oh, one more thing. The Democrats have no problem seating the Al Franken tomorrow. Yes, that will go over well. Seat a Senator even though there are legal challenges remaining.
