Imagine being John McCain today. He got to be in the President-Elect photo-op. The problem is he’s not the one who’s the President-Elect. He did however receive something on the way out the door. Click here.
Also, I am told he is now going back to being a stand up comic. Click here.
As for the meeting between McCain and Obama in Chicago today, what is there really to say? Obama would love for McCain to herd Republicans on tough bi-partisan problems on the Hill. McCain has a track record of doing it so it could work. It really is up to McCain to decide how much he really wants to stick his neck out. But here’s the deal: say whatever you want about McCain but the man is a true patriot and loves his country. I think if he sees an opportunity to get a deal done on climate change or national service or immigration or ethics reform, he’ll seize the opportunity.
Here’s a joint statement from the meeting today between Obama and McCain:
“At this defining moment in history, we believe that Americans of all parties want and need their leaders to come together and change the bad habits of Washington so that we can solve the common and urgent challenges of our time. It is in this spirit that we had a productive conversation today about the need to launch a new era of reform where we take on government waste and bitter partisanship in Washington in order to restore trust in government, and bring back prosperity and opportunity for every hardworking American family. We hope to work together in the days and months ahead on critical challenges like solving our financial crisis, creating a new energy economy, and protecting our nation's security.”
