Exclusive: Todd Palin’s 1986 DUI Arrest Called “Lesson Learned”

Sources close to Sarah Palin tell The Brody File that the husband of the GOP Vice-presidential choice, Todd Palin, was arrested and charged with Driving under the Influence of alcohol back in 1986. He was 22 years old at the time. He was driving in a truck with some friends in the small southwestern Alaska town of Dillingham when he was pulled over for the DUI.  As is customary, he was taken to jail briefly. Sarah and Todd Palin were high school sweethearts so they were dating at the time. The Brody File can also report that there was no accident or injuries.

Sources close to Sarah Palin also tell The Brody File that Todd Palin has been “forthcoming about the situation and has indicated that it was a lesson learned from when he was younger.”

The old saying that confession is good for the soul could be behind this new development in the 2008 Presidential race.  Or it could be a desire to stay ahead of any potential media storm.

Evangelicals have been simply ecstatic over the Sarah Palin pick. I don’t think a story like this will dampen that support. With Evangelicals it’s all about grace and redemption. A DUI from 22 years ago seems to be a blip on the radar. Evangelicals know what it’s like to make mistakes. Trust me on that one. Plus, let’s put the Palin DWI in perspective here a little bit. I mean after all, Barack Obama has admitted to some past moral failures too in his youth…and he’s running for President.

The Palin family looks to be a big plus for McCain not a negative. My guess is that when it is all over and we learn more about this Alaskan family they will probably end up making a pretty positive impression on the nation. What is very clear in all of this is that the Palin family is under the microscope and the serious media vetting process has begun. Welcome to the national stage. It’s not pretty at times but when you’re a heartbeat away from the presidency everything gets magnified. It comes with the territory.

# RE: Exclusive: Todd Palin’s 1986 DUI Arrest Called “Lesson Learned”

It is nothing short of disgraceful that this this irrelevant long-distant incident, not about Sarah Palin but about the man who would later become her husband, was dredged up at all! It's even more remarkable that the dredging up was done by a reporter for CBN. It's hard to avoid the suspicion that it was related to Brody's rather overt poltical infatuation with Obama. It's really something when the Democrats have somebody at CBN who will do some of their lowest dirty work for them. Tell me, Mr. Brody, would you like somebody digging around in your family's garbage like this?
