There’s a big difference this time around for Democrats. In 2004, the “Dems” gave us John Kerry and John Edwards. The whole thing felt very plastic, fake, and a little too rich and stuffy. (Windsurfing anyone?) In 2008, it is the exact opposite. The ticket has an authentic and real feel to it. It very well could be a difference maker.
Take Obama vs Kerry. Obama is the hip, young and smart guy. Can you imagine John Kerry saying, “Let me give a shout out to Teresa?” Joe Biden is a genuine working class guy who happens to be a Senator. He’s very real. (Sometimes too real which gets him in trouble) John Edwards felt more like a really good car salesman.
The point here is that both Obama and Biden are generally likeable. That can go a long way in presidential politics. Reagan was likeable. So was Clinton. So was George W.
John McCain may be a riot and a real gregarious type of guy but in public he plays it pretty straight and serious. Likeable vs. serious. That is advantage Obama.
