Jeremiah Wright may be in the past (for now) but Pastor Michael Pfleger is not. And Barack Obama now has to deal with him. Oy-vey!
Chicago Catholic Pastor Pfleger spoke at Obama's Church last Sunday. He mocked Hillary Clinton and made her seem like an entitled white politician. The video is pretty over the top: Watch it here.
Obama has distanced himself from the whole episode saying in part:
"I am deeply disappointed in Father Plefger's divisive, backward-looking rhetoric."
You know, there are a couple things going on here. First of all, the last thing Obama needs is for his Church to be back in the spotlight. Pastor Wright may be gone but if these types of insensitive comments continue to come out of the pulpit, then the Church will continue to become a liability for him. That's unfortunate because the larger message gets lost. That message is one of how some African-Americans believe in the notion of white privilege. It's an issue that doesn't get talked about in the main stream media because it requires getting down in the weeds a little and exploring the topic. We plan to do that more here on The Brody File.
