A source close to the Obama campaign tells The Brody File that Barack Obama and Michelle Obama approached Trinity United Church Pastor Otis Moss III a couple months ago to discuss whether Obama should remain with the church.
More now on the news that Barack Obama is leaving Trinity United Church.
Breaking news. I have confirmed that that Barack Obama is leaving Trinity United Church.
I'm getting a headache. This RBC (Rules and Bylaws Committee) meeting in Washington goes on and on. There are so many different complicated scenarios out there that I need two Excedrin and a calculator. This thing is so complicated it makes the College Football Bowl Championship Series look like first grade math.
Charlie Black, one of John McCain's top advisors tells The Brody File that Obama is not read to be Commander-in-Chief. Read the answer below. The video is above.
Will Evangelicals help put McCain over the top or sit on their hands?
I had a chance to sit down with senior McCain campaign advisor Charlie Black Thursday evening in Milwaukee, WI.
Charlie Black, one of John McCain's top advisors sat down with The Brody File Thursday evening in Milwaukee, WI. Watch what he told me on Obama's lack of experience. You can read the transcription below:
The Brody File was in Chicago Thursday and spent the day at Barack Obama's main headquarters. I spoke with Obama's top advisor David Axelrod and he talked to me about some of the key turning points in this wild primary race. Watch above: read below:
So what if Hillary doesn't quit after June 3? I spoke one on one today with Barack Obama's chief strategist David Axelrod at Obama headquarters in Chicago. His answer can be seen above and read below:
When I interviewed top Obama strategist David Axelrod at Obama headquarters Thursday in Chicago, I asked him about Michelle Obama and whether or not she's "fair game" in an upcoming general election. Read what he said below and watch it above:
Those pesky Muslim emails about Barack Obama just won't go away. Some people still think he's a Muslim. He's not. I talked to David Axelrod, Obama's chief strategist about that today at Obama headquarters in Chicago. The answer is below and you can watch it above.
The Brody File got a rare inside look at Barack Obama's main headquarters in Chicago Thursday. We're working on a story about how their campaign has been able to come this far. Watch above as the talented and telegenic Tommy Vietor with the Obama campaign gives me a tour.
Jeremiah Wright may be in the past (for now) but Pastor Michael Pfleger is not. And Barack Obama now has to deal with him. Oy-vey!
Today on the 700 Club I took a look at the big primary this Sunday in Puerto Rico.
Maybe it's just a hunch. Maybe it's more than that, but after talking to people within the Clinton campaign I get the distinct impression that this race may not be over the morning of June 4. Hear me out.
The Brody File has been talking with pro-family leaders and activists and they all agree that if John McCain picks Florida Governor Charlie Crist as his running mate, there will be MAJOR dissatisfaction among social conservatives. Jim Backlin, a conservative activist with a hefty email list, told me:
Will John McCain’s age be an issue in this upcoming 2008 campaign? Well, listen to John McCain himself back in 2000. Even he admitted back then that he’d be pretty old to run for President. The video is from an interview on PBS in 2000. Video is here .The transcription is below: <
Pastor John Hagee is no longer associated with John McCain’s campaign but before this story fades away he wants to set the record straight. Read his statement below: <
Did I hear that right? In front of a Jewish audience Thursday in Florida, Obama said the following:
Two campaign aides for John McCain's tell The Brody File that outreach to the religious community is well underway with weekly meetings between McCain staffers and pro-family leaders. There are roughly ten people on the call from the Evangelical and social conservative world including prominent McCain backers Gary Bauer and former Senator Dan Coates. The focus of the weekly meeting is to gauge the temperature of the grassroots, keep a dialogue open and make sure they know that the McCain camp is
In the end, it was just too much. John McCain said farewell to Reverend John Hagee today after new comments surfaced where Hagee basically said Hitler was fulfilling God's will by chasing the Jews away from Europe. The audio and more information is here. John McCain's statement is below:
It had all the drama of victory. It had all the drama of closure.
Hillary keeps on churnin'. Tonight she told supporters that she's winning the popular vote. Umm.the Obama campaign may have a thing or two to say about that. Anyhow read a portion of her speech below:
Read Hillary Clinton's victory speech below or watch it by clicking on the play button on the media player to the right.
I have an exclusive Brody File tip: Hillary Clinton will win Kentucky tonight. OK...OK... I have been reading the poll numbers. Forget the exclusive tip.
You may have heard the news. Maybe you haven't. Sen. Ted Kennedy has a malignant brain tumor. Read more here.
It's time to play a guessing game. I'm going to list a bunch of quotes and I want you to guess who said them ok? Here goes:
There are a lot of reasons Barack Obama is poised to be the presidential nominee of the Democratic Party; he's smart, tough, inspirational, hopeful, charming, etc. But here's the main reason he's been able to win: his message is consistent.
Hey, Republican National Committee, Barack Obama says keep his family out of it. Obama looked clearly agitated when defending his wife Michelle on Good Morning America. Watch it here.
Hey Brody File readers. I received hundreds of emails regarding the Obama and the Cross story. (Thanks to the Drudge Report!) Anyhow, here's a representative sampling of what people are saying. More on the Obama cross flyer here.
Let's start with this first: here are the statements from the McCain, Obama and Clinton campaigns on the California Supreme Court ruling regarding gay marriage:
So here's the deal: President Bush slams foreign policy "appeasers" in a speech in Israel and Barack Obama says to himself, "Hey, he's talking about me." Read part of the Associated Press report below, and then get my take:
As you may know, I was down in Puerto Rico last week reporting on their upcoming June 1st primary. I have put together two different stories for The 700 Club. The first one is a shorter version that looks at how Puerto Rico matters in 2008. It aired today and you can watch it above. The second one will air in two weeks and will go into more depth explaining the political landscape in Puerto Rico. Enjoy!
Is this the nail in the coffin for Hillary Clinton? John Edwards endorsement of Barack Obama is what you call a strong counter punch to Hillary Clinton's big victory in West Virginia. C'mon folks you know what had to be going on behind the scenes. The Obama campaign probably had Edwards in their hip pocket and waited to roll him out on the day after getting hammered in West Virginia. Do we all think this was coincidence? It sure does change the media narrative. So much for Hillary's good press.
I have been telling Brody File readers for months that if Barack Obama becomes the Democratic nominee he will make a pitch to win over independent/moderate Evangelicals. Well, we now have evidence. <
Hillary Clinton won by a huge margin in the West Virginia primary, Tuesday, but what does this mean in the race for the White House?
Warning: If you are a die-hard Republican, please sit down. Do not attempt to stand and read this. You may faint. I have warned you. Bad news…really bad news.
I must confess something. I'm a little tired of the political pundits.
Hillary Clinton winning West Virginia is like The Beatles winning the Liverpool vote.
You think the McCain camp is diggin' this story? Read below:
It seems Barack Obama will need to convince Americans that he's as patriotic as the next guy and that he has Israel's back. He's speaking out on Israel in a pretty forceful way. Read below from The Associated Press:
The Democratic National Committee is trying to make John McCain into "W. Part 3" but it's not a complete sell. Take John McCain's remarks today in Oregon on climate change. Umm, that was not George W. Bush talking. That was the anti-Bush up there. Read below from The Associated Press:
There's a report over at U.S. News and World Report that Mike Huckabee is on McCain's short list for VP. Sounds like a trial balloon to me, but read below:
The Brody File is in Puerto Rico taking a look at how the island is preparing for the Democratic Primary.
They call themselves Mujeres por Clinton, or Women for Clinton. Some 500 women from across the island of Puerto Rico have formed a group in support of Hillary Clinton.
We're down here in San Juan, Puerto Rico and we made our way to Hato Rey where the Obama camp has setup shop. I spoke with Temo Figueroa, Obama's national field director about the importance of Puerto Rico and how the campaign is reaching out to voters.
Haven't we seen this script before? When John McCain was cruising towards the Republican nomination, the pundits and party officials were calling on Mike Huckabee to get out of the race because he would be hurting the Republican Party. He didn't listen. He only got out when McCain clinched the nomination.
After a long night working hard in old San Juan, The Brody File was up and running this morning making an appearance by phone on The 700 Club to discuss the state of the Democratic race. Watch above.
We should call this week, "Social conservative week" for John McCain.
This was just sent to me from Barack Obama's religious outreach team. They are excited about winning an even greater share of the religious vote within Indiana and North Carolina. Read below from their Religious Outreach Director Joshua Dubois:
Today, John McCain delivers a big speech where he's speaking out about the horrible practice of human trafficking. However, according to the Congressional Record back on November 15, 2001 he complained about a $200,000 earmark that would have gone towards promoting a human trafficking conference in Hawaii, something the White House was pushing at the time.
We stopped by a Hillary Clinton watch party in San Juan, Puerto Rico Tuesday night. About 50 people were there. The folks here are excited about the fact that Puerto Rico will have a significant say in this Democratic race. Of course, will Hillary call it quits before Puerto Rico? Either way, watch the video of supporters above.
As you know, The Brody File is in Puerto Rico and we wanted to give you a sense of what it's like here in San Juan. We were in Old San Juan Tuesday night where the Obama campaign went through the streets here handing out flags and literature to locals. The Obama and Clinton teams each have around 20-30 folks working for them down here.
Can we just give it to you straight here at The Brody File? Now that Hillary Clinton lost North Carolina by double digits and barely won Indiana, Clinton can continue to make her case to the super delegates all she wants. She has an overall narrative to sell but let's face it: time is running out and right now "time" is the one element that has at least the fleeting chance to save her. Why? Because she needs Barack Obama to make a mistake. She needs another "bitter" co
Hey Brody File readers. I have made it to San Juan, Puerto Rico. The Brody File assumes that this race between Clinton and Obama is going to make it here to Puerto Rico so we have come down here to tell that story. In essence, the story I'm working on is a "Puerto Rico Primary 101" piece that will air on the 700 Club in a couple weeks. Watch The Brody File for video from Puerto Rico this week.
Robo Call alert! Robo call alert! The Obama campaign says they are being hit right now in Indiana by automated phone calls by National Right to Life. Here is what is being said over the phone to voters in Indiana:
I’ve been on the campaign trail a lot and I’ve seen her up close and personal. You definitely get a different impression of her when you cover her. Don’t take my word for it. I have spoken to many die-hard conservatives who cover her on a daily basis and while they may not personally agree with her policies, they’ve come to actually like her. They see a different side of her that the public DOES NOT see. She’s actually quite funny. Does she have her faults? Sure. Bu
Hillary Clinton looks like she's closing the gap in North Carolina. Brody File producer Robin Mazyck went down to North Carolina and produced the piece above for The 700 Club. My annonying voice is on the piece, Have a look.
From Kellie: He can denounce Rev. Wright all day, but he still goes to the same church that has a pastor who was under Rev. Wright and who says the same hateful stuff. Faith by Bible says comes by hearing so as long as he’s hearing the same old hateful stuff I can not believe that those are not his views. From Robert: I hope that Barack Obama can put the Rev. Wright controversy behind him. It would be sad to see a promising politician like Obama swiftboated for something he didn't even do
