The verdict is in. Now get ready to hear incessant wails of "racism" and "Islamophobia" from Islamist pressure groups like CAIR and their allies on the left. From the Associated Press:
Jurors found 10 Muslim students guilty Friday of disrupting a lecture by the Israeli ambassador at a California university in a case that stoked a spirited debate about free speech.
Jurors delivered the verdicts in Orange County Superior Court in the case involving a speech by Ambassador Michael Oren in February 2010 at the University of California, Irvine.
The students were also convicted of conspiring to disrupt Oren's speech.
They were charged with misdemeanor counts after standing up, one by one, and shouting prepared statements at Oren such as "propagating murder is not an expression of free speech."
About 150 people, including relatives and supporters of the students and Orange County District Attorney Tony Rackauckas, attended the verdict. Some community members gasped and started crying when the verdict was read and about a dozen of them walked out.
The students showed little reaction but later huddled with their attorneys and shared hugs with family and friends.
Shakeel Syed of the Islamic Shura Council of Southern California said he was shocked.
"This is yet another reaffirmation that Islamophobia is intensely and extensively alive and thriving in Orange County," he said. "I believe this will be used as precedent now to suppress speech and dissent throughout the country. This is the beginning of the death of democracy."
There's that magic word designed to shut down any honest debate: Islamophobia! Click on the viewer below to watch my recent piece about the Muslim Students Association (MSA), a Muslim Brotherhood front group whose sister organization, the Muslim Students Union, spearheaded those vicious, inflammatory disruptions of Ambassador Oren's speech.
And that's exactly what they were, as you'll see if you fast forward to the 4:30 mark of my MSA story below.
On a related note: this past Sunday night in Tallahassee, I was keynote speaker at a Christians United for Israel (CUFI) Night to Honor Israel event at Florida State University. As Florida Congressman Steve Southerland went to the podium to speak, a group of 10 to 12 Muslim and leftist students stood up and walked in front of him in a straight line. They all had masking tape over their mouths and shirts that read something to the effect of "Justice for Palestine." How original.
After being escorted outside, this unholy alliance of Islamists and leftists lingered a bit longer with plans to shout mindless slogans.. But as their anti-Israel chants began, they were quickly drowned out by hymns sung by a group of students and faculty from Word of Faith Christian school in North Carolina, who were also in attendance (Stakelbeck on Terror viewers met the Word of Faith team here, at the 19:30 mark). The Islamo-Marxists gave up after about 10 minutes and dispersed.
The point is this: the kind of anti-Semitic venom Ambassador Oren faced at UC-Irvine is par for the course on college campuses across the country anytime a pro-Israel speaker dares appear in public. That's why I'm a big supporter of CUFI on Campus, which is doing brave and indispensable work nationwide to fight back against the lies in "higher education."
