Bin Laden's Son Killed in U.S. Airstrike?

Bin Laden is dead. Those are the words many Americans have wanted to hear ever since 9/11. Now an al-Qaeda terrorist by the name of bin Laden has apparently met his maker. But it's not Osama. U.S. officials believe that Saad bin Laden--the son of the terror kingpin--was killed in a U.S. airstrike earlier this year. National Intelligence Director Mike McConnell told National Public Radio he believes Saad was killed in Pakistan, where he had traveled after spending several years in Iran. Despite his family connections, Saad was not a heavy hitter for al Qaeda. McConnell says he was not targeted specifcally, but that his death was, instead, collateral damage. No body has been recovered as of yet, so it is still not possible to confirm Saad's death. It is also unclear whether his father was in the vincinity at the time of the airstrike. Saad's death does not impact the operational direction of the war on terror, but there is still some symbolic value to it and perhaps even a bit of psychological value as well. With the ultimate goal, of course, remaining the death or capture of his father--still the most wanted man in the world, and still believed to be hiding somewhere in the tribal regions of Pakistan.
