For months, many American and European elites have been crossing their fingers, hoping that former Iranian President Mohammed Khatami could reclaim his old post and supplant current genocidal prez Mahmoud Ahmadenijad in the Iranian presidential election this June. I always thought the chances were slim at best--now they are nonexistent, as Khatami has pulled out of the running. Here's more, from Tehran Times:
The decision is seen as a move to secure support from the electorate for former prime minister Mir-Hossein Mousavi, another reformist candidate who announced his decision to run for the presidential post last Tuesday.
“Khatami has made a decision to pull out of the election and this meeting is intended to inform the campaign office members and Baran Foundation members of his withdrawal from the tenth presidential election,” the source said.
The source noted that Khatami does not wish to run against Mousavi since this may result in reformists’ defeat.
"Reformists," eh? Does that mean Khatami's group will consider relinquishing Iran's nuclear weapons program and support of terror groups? Or recognize Israel's right to exist? Of course not. Here's more background on Khatami's faux "moderation."
