Jesus Longs for His Bride

From Julie:

My friend “Eric” is single, and he admitted on more than one occasion that being alone is one of the hardest “crosses” for him to bear since the break up of his marriage over a year ago. As a man, he likes taking care of a woman. He misses physical intimacy, being the protector, provider, and the confidante, but God has not given him the go-ahead to get involved in another relationship. How or when it might happen, he doesn’t know. What he does know is that it’s ever so hard being patient through the loneliness.

Listening to a man like Eric, created in God’s image, it got me wondering how Jesus felt about being alone. Did He get lonely? Did He ever feel the emptiness and ache of not having a woman to protect, provide for, and to have physical intimacy with? We easily dismiss it in our minds saying, “No! He was above all that. He didn’t need a relationship. He had His Father.”

But Jesus was and still is fully man (Luke 24:39). What did His Father (and ours) say? “It is not good that man should be alone. I will make him a helper suitable for him (Gen. 2:18).”

I read a fascinating book awhile back by Frank Viola, “From Eternity to Here: Rediscovering the Ageless Purpose of God.” In this book, he pointed to a beautiful parallel between the “First Adam” and the “Second Adam.” Restating in my own words, the First Adam was alone in a Garden when God put him into a deep sleep so that He might take a suitable helper, a woman, out of his side. From this union would come a multitude of physical offspring.

The Second Adam (1 Cor. 15:22, 45) prayed alone in a Garden just before He was put into a sleep for three days. After that, a “woman” was taken out of His side—a Bride and a Church—who would be a suitable helper for Him. Out of this union would come a multitude of spiritual offspring.

So we see that even Jesus had to wait a long time in a state of “incompleteness” for His Bride to be introduced to Him. And I believe the Bible teaches that the relationship with His betrothed Bride will not be “consummated” until the onset of His future Millennial Kingdom, when He and She meet face to face for the first time to begin the “Wedding Feast (Luke 12:36).”

Jesus has been waiting in great anticipation for at least 6,000 years to claim His Bride. I believe the empty place God puts in our hearts when we are single is not separate from the experience of Christ, but a witness to it. We can use this longing and loneliness to feel Jesus’ longing for His own Bride, whom He bought at a price on the cross. Someday He will lavish His love, provision, protection, and intimacy upon His Bride, and all the ache and loneliness will go away for good.

Julie,
Your article is very nice, sweet in fact but I think that you have kind of missed the point of Jesus being alone, as in no female for intimacy, being able to protect, etc. There was purpose for that - in the sense that had He been involved with a lady, married etc., He would have focused on His bride of the day. He would not have had the desire to go out, travel as He did, and teach the people in those areas.
I think that the same applies today - He is very busy being God and answering prayers, so His purpose is manyfold different and important than when He was on earth.
Did He need a female companion? He had them as dear friends and followers - the females that stayed close to Him and actually paid for some of the expenses of the Disciples and Jesus. He stayed with people that He was teaching, or had befriended. Being married may have precluded accomplishing what He did for us.
I am not convinced that Jesus being alone was a difficult thing. It won't be long to know.

What a Wonderful article! A Blessing to my Soul and Spirit, Praise the Lord! Only one thing, and that is 1 Day is with the Lord as a 1,000 Years and a 1,000 Years as 1 day (Psalms 90:4, 2 Peter 3:8)! You mention in your article that the Lord Jesus has been waiting for 6,000 years to meet His Bride! It is with our Period of Years in this world, but Actually it has only been 6 days with Jesus waiting to Meet His Bride by Heavens Standard of Time according to the Word of God! God bless you is my Prayers! Thanks for your Article! Your brother in Jesus our Lord!

HELP ME OUT ON THIS PEOPLE! "The Second Adam (1 Cor. 15:22, 45) prayed alone in a Garden just before He was put into a sleep for three days. THE SCRIPTURES IN MY BIBLE DO NOT READ WHAT IS WRITTEN ABOVE. HELP ME OUT HERE. V45 SAYS AND SO IT IS WRITTEN, THE FIRST MAN ADAM WAS MADE A LIVING SOUL; THE LAST ADAM WAS MADE A QUICKENING SPIRIT. V22 READS: FOR AS IN ADAM ALL DIE EVEN SO IN CHRIST SHALL ALL BE MADE ALIVE. MY BIBLE IS A KING JAMES VERSION. HELP

I too like your friend Eric have been single for awhile from a divorce. It's been almost three years since he left and almost two years since our divorce was final. It's been a long, hard and tough road but one I would not trade for anything because of the closeness and growth I have experienced with JESUS. Oh it's lonely, depressing and sad a lot but GOD has our mate of HIS chosing in store for us and I wait with hope! I know that as I wait for my godly man, GOD is changing/molding/growing/shaping/teaching me to be his suitable helpmate. For that I am eternally grateful but even more to finally meet and be with my 1st love and husband forever....JESUS, whom nothing and no one can ever compare and far outweighs ALL! :-)

Hey Carol. I'm not sure what your question is, but Jesus is the second Adam. He prayed in the Garden of Gethsammane the night before His crucifixion at which point He was dead in the earth for three days and three nights. As a result of His resurrection, the Church or the Body of Christ was born, both Jew and non-Jew. The Church is His bride who will join Him in the great Wedding Feast in when He sets up His Kingdom on earth for 1,000 years. The bride/body is His help-mate on earth to proclaim the Gospel and win the harvest of souls back to God. The harvest of souls is the spiritual offspring of this marriage relationship with Christ. It is all in the spirit, not in the flesh. To piece all of this together you must search out the Scriptures as it is not contained in one verse or passage, but by putting pieces together. A great book on the topic (I think I mentioned) is Frank Viola's "From Eternity to Here."
