Breast cancer is one of the scourges of modern life. Millions of women and a surprising number of men are afflicted with this deadly disease.
But one organization - the Susan G. Komen for the Cure - is mobilizing women around the world to fight back through efforts like early detection. It's the world's largest grassroots network of breast cancer survivors and is the largest source of nonprofit funds fighting breast cancer around the world.
One of the primary ways they raise awareness of this disease is hosting their "Races for the cure."
For the first time Susan G. Komen will be sponsoring a race in Israel later this year. We talked with Dorothy Paterson about the race. Dorothy is a member of the board of directors and a 12 year breast cancer survivor herself. As she mentions in this interview, one of the race's participants will be Jennifer Griffin of Fox News.
Griffin was stationed here in Jerusalem for many years during some of the most dangerous periods in recent Israel history. But when Griffin was re-assigned to the Pentagon, she faced a much more personal danger - Stage 3 breast cancer.
With characteristic pluck, Jennifer took her private battle public. Through that battle she chronicled on her blog, she showed remarkable courage and faith. Recently, doctors declared her cancer free.
She'll be here in Jerusalem urging others to fight the good fight against this disease that knows no boundaries.
