Why Is San Remo So Important?

You might never have heard of San Remo, Italy, or know why it's so important to Israel.

San Remo is a beautiful town nestled along Italy's northern Mediterranean coastline near the border with France.

But what happened there 90 years ago last Sunday, April 25, is what makes San Remo significant to Israel.

That's the day when the great powers of the time - England, France, Italy and Japan, with the United States as an observer - signed a document establishing a homeland for the Jewish people.

For the first time in nearly 2,000 years, that document enshrined in international law what Jews had longed for - a place of their own.

Last Sunday, the European Coalition for Israel and Canadian Supporters of Israel's Legal Rights organized a ceremony marking that anniversary.

Here's a clip from an interview we did with Tomas Sandell, the founder of the European Coalition for Israel, about the importance of the San Remo conference held 90 years ago.

Are we reneging on this? WE MUST REMEMBER. WE MUST STAND BY OUR PROMISES.
