Who will mourn for Lebanon?

With the U.S. preoccupied with the presidential election, few Americans might have noticed the recent monumental developments within Lebanon. According to Barry Rubin, one of the most insightful Middle East analysts today, we all might one day look back on those developments with alarm.

Rubin is the director of the "Global Research in International Affairs" Center and editor of the "Middle East Review of International Affairs Journal."

His recent article, "The Fall of Lebanon," provides a sobering outlook for this strategic Middle Eastern country and what its recent developments portend for the West and the world. Rubin reflects on the parallel between those dark days before World War II, the prescient views of Winston Churchill and our own time.

Finally, he presents at least one view, prevalent here in some Middle East circles, of U.S. presidential candidate Barack Obama and how his foreign policy approach may fare in the rough and tumble world of Middle East diplomacy. Read the complete story here.
