You may have heard about the Centers for Disease Control new statistics on the healthiest town (Burlington, VT) and unhealthiest place (Huntington, WV). That got me thinking about the unhealthiest places for the unborn -- that's anywhere in the United States. But some of us are more threatened than others.
U.S. premature baby data just released from the March of Dimes shows very high rates. Almost 13 percent of births -- about one in eight -- are before term. That's 530,000 babies each year.
The news reports suggest it's a stunning breakthrough. Statins, those drugs popularized for cholesterol reduction, can also reduce inflammation that plays a role in heart and circulatory disease.
