Robert Park Interview: Speaking Up for North Korean Christians

Robert Park is a man on a mission. He says he's called to continue to "speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves." (Proverbs 31:8-9)

Nearly a year has passed since the Korean American missionary crossed the frozen Tumen River and walked from China into North Korea. Attentive border guards immediately arrested Park and took him to a North Korean prison where he suffered sexual abuse and torture.

Many of Park's friends are North Korean defectors--they told him how Christians and others are sent to concentration camps, tortured and left to die. Park knew what he was up against before crossing the border, yet he was willing to pay the price.

Whether or not you agree with his conduct (crossing borders without permission is illegal), one cannot help but admire his passion, advocacy, and commitment to Christ. Tired of Christians "talking the talk" but not "walking the walk," Park decided to do something to draw attention to the plight of Christians in North Korea. As a result, he suffered excruciating pain and suffering at the hands of the brutal totalitarian regime. He doesn't like to talk about it or give much detail of the torture he experienced, but he reportedly told one reporter that he would "never be able to have a marriage or any kind of relationship."

How are Christians faring in North Korea today and what does he think about those who are evangelized in China or South Korea and then sent back to the North? He responds to those questions in clip one of our CBN News interview.

In clip two, Park explains what he did when he first crossed the border into North Korea.

In clip three, he discusses how he was treated by his North Korea interrogators and what he said to them.

In our fourth and final interview clip, Park explains what Christians can do to make a difference for our North Korean brothers and sisters in Christ.

Please take the time to view all four clips and then pray. Few Christians suffer worse than those in North Korea.

Bless you, Robert Parks, in the name of Jesus Christ. I was praying for you last year & was distressed to see the trauma you returned home with. I realized they had done horrible things to you - but prayed that it didn't destroy you ie remove you from your faith in Jesus. I am so glad that after a time of healing with family, you have taken up your armor again -"able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand." You witness to us strength & courage through the Holy Spirit

# RE: Robert Park - laying down his life for God's sheep

Greetings from America Robert Parks!

Your story brought tears to my eyes and prayer to my heart; for you, your loved ones and the Christians reaching out to the North Koreans where Satan is effectively prohibiting the Words of Christ. The North Korean regime fears the power in Jesus' WORD because they see the freedom it brings people who understand and live it. And where the freedom of Christ reigns, evil dictators fall.

In the name of Jesus Christ, may God bless you Robert for WALKING IN THE LOVING BRAVE FOOTSTEPS of our Lord, a path that does not shrink back from dragons of evil or death itself. May God help us to imitate your example as you have imitated Christ.

Love in Christ,

Robert, you are very courageous!
Thanks for speaking out and telling the world about the persecution of Christians in North Korea. We will definitely pray for them and for you as well.
I am sure without a doubt that your testimony during your stay in North Korea has troubled many consciences, changed many lives and will lead many people to Christ.

Robert, I am so blessed to have met you and prayed with you. You are God's messenger for North Korea. Please keep proclaiming the condition of our Brothers and Sisters in North Korea, you are doing the Lords'Will and you shall receive a reward greater than you yourself or I or anyone else could ever comprehend. We are not of this world, you know and are sharing that. Lord Jesus Christ we pray for our Brothers and Sisters in North Korea, We pray for those who have not heard in North Korea and we pray for Robert, that you would let him know that we love him, pray for him and I know Lord that you are doing a mighty work in and through him. Hold him Lord and remind him always as we pray for your hand to reach all the corners of the earth by means of the men and women who have taken that step of faith forward. Thank you Robert, I love you and pray for you every day. God bless you and keep you in his grace. YSIC Cindy Schiller
