"American Idol" Finale: Clean-cut Teens v. Provocative Pop Stars

Another American Idol season has come and gone. We have a winner – Scotty McCreery! And while this is not the most important news of the week given all the devastation created by severe weather, I was inspired by the two young teens who made it to the finals. Were they the most talented of all the people who auditioned and made it to Hollywood? Maybe. Maybe not. But the show had its moments and I want to talk about a few of them.

The Problem with Kids Getting Botox

Those of you who regularly read my blog know how upset I become when retailers market push up bras to 8 year-olds and moms take their young children to spas for bikini and leg waxing. Well last week took the cake and I can’t ignore the story because it speaks to a sick cultural obsession – beauty at any cost.

10 Ways to Honor Mom

This is my first Mother’s Day without my mom. She passed away before Christmas of 2010 and it will be sad to not talk to her, send her flowers, and recall fond memories. But for those of you who still have your moms, this is a time to honor her and make it a special day. Honoring mom will be easy for some of you, but more difficult for others.
