China's pandas aren't generally the most amorous animals. If anything, they need all of the help they can get to populate the species.
Fortunately for panda lovers everywhere, Chengdu Panda Research and Breeding Center now has a new exercise regimen to keep pandas in optimal shape, and put them in the mood for love.
So, what's the secret to love between pandas? In some sense it's not that different than humans. First, there's the right walk, as researchers are teaching pandas to strut their stuff, on two feet, strengthening their pelvis and hip muscles.
They're also having a panda-fied version of a "relationship seminar," where single pandas can benefit from the experience of pandas who have made a successful match.
Finally, when it seems like two pandas have made the right connection, zoo keepers put them in a room together, kind of like a panda date night. If things go according to plan, zookeepers can expect the pitter-patter or black and white feet in a few short months.
Is their plan working? As you can see from the video, these 8 pandas are the product of panda breeding, and are now making their way to Beijing from Woolong. They captured the country's hearts, and won an online poll determining which of them would spend 6 months, basking in the Olympic festivities.
With any luck, there could even be some new love connections on the way to Beijing. Stay tuned . . .
