President's Easter Sermon Critical of 'Religious Right'

Despite clouds and drizzle on Easter Sunday, the first family walked out of the White House and across Lafayette Park to attend St. John's Episcopal Church. The church has been frequented by Obama and other presidents through the years, and as is tradition, the Obamas sat in Pew 54.

Rev. Luis Leon, who participated in the inaugural ceremonies of both Presidents Obama and George W. Bush, delivered a sermon about not holding on to the past. As Jesus told Mary not to hold on to the past, he preached, "you cannot go back."

He went on to say, "It drives me crazy when the captains of the religious right are always calling us back....for blacks to be back in the back of the bus...for women to be back in the kitchen...for immigrants to be back on their side of the border."

The thing is, Beltway Buzz knows racism and sexism are alive and well in this country, but accusing an entire group of people of calling for "blacks to be back in the back of the bus" and "women to be back in the kitchen" is pretty extreme, especially on a day Christians celebrate the resurrection of their loving Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

White House Spokesman Jay Carney was asked about this quote but says he wasn't there and didn't have any reaction from President Obama to share.

Religious Right... means

Christian conservatives principally seek to apply their understanding of the teachings of Christianity to politics and public policy by proclaiming the value of those teachings and/or by seeking to use those teachings to influence law and public policy.

Jesus did not call us to change and influence government laws and public policy...Yes it would be awesome to have a government that follows God, Jesus in everything...but that is not going to happen until Jesus sets up His awesome government...Jesus told us to get souls saved, because the time is short.

As a white female conservative Christian living in California I am offended by the comments made by the Rev. Luis Leon. The last thing I want to see is ANYONE being forced to sit at the back of any bus. My hope is that we can live in a country where the Rev. Martin Luther King's 'dream' is a reality - where people are judged by their character and not by their skin color. God's word tells us in Galatians 3:28 "There is neither Greek nor Jew, there is neither slave or free, there is neither male no female; for you are all one in Jesus Christ". Amen to that!

His sermon is an indicator of where he stands. It seems that his sermon in filled with racism instead of God's love and the RESURRECTION.

Who is holding on to the past? We all know that it is people like the pastor who hol on to the past. He willfully bypassed the whole message of Easter. What a shame that someone like him has the center stage at these events.

"You cannot go back"! What does that supposed to mean? To many it will say, "Yes to Same sex Marriage, Yes, to Government Paid Contraception, Yes to Government over Religion, and Yes to anything else the Left wants to impose on America! Myself, I like Dr. Ben Carson. I do hope he doesn't get discouraged by Left Wing criticism. A retired Catholic priest from Canada.

This is the type of lies and hate for whites that obama listened to under jerimiah wright for 20 years. he just needed his ears 'tickled' again so he can continue to carry out his anti-christ agendas. pro homosexual, pro abortion, anti israel and anti christian are his mainstay. The Bible says we are known by our works. his speaks volumns if people will compare what he has done with the true word of God.

To bad the President did not walk out on the man, which would have taught him a lesson to not politic from the pulpit. He should have been teaching the word of God. No conservative I know wants Blacks to ride in the back of the bus. Who is going to cook if women are not in the kitchen along with her husband helping her? What shame is there in a woman taking care of her family?Where they like it or not God's word says that homosexuality is an abomonation. You can't pick and chose what you want from God's word even if you are a church.
