Clergy Lobby Obama to Protect the Poor

Clergy who typically try to stay as far away from politics as possible are now doing their best to get involved, one Obama Administration official tells Beltway Buzz.

Last week President Obama's "Circle of Protection," a group of pastors and leaders from across the country, met with him at the White House to discuss the debt ceiling debate and upcoming budget battle, which is guaranteed to make the debt ceiling talks feel like 'the good 'ole days.'

Many in the "circle" are concerned about entitlement programs like Social Security and Medicaid getting "gutted" by Republican lawmakers bent on cutting spending and the size of government.

According to one official, at their meeting last week, members of the "circle" asked President Obama if they could pray with him.

The president said, "I hope you're already praying for me."

Let the church take care of the poor. That's our job not the government. The government is broke. Do we hawk ourselves to the Chinese Government just to take of people? There is to much waste and fraud in government. The Bible says the borrow is a slave to the lender. Social Security is something we all have paid into and is not an entitlement program. Create jobs for the poor and they will have more self esteem and not be poor. Stop looking to the govenment and start looking to God who is our source not Obama.
