Christine O'Donnell easily won Delaware's Republican nomination for the U.S. Senate. A few weeks ago that would have been considered miraculous, but now pundits caution that her real battle lies ahead. O'Donnell's Republican primary opponent, long time Delaware Congressman Mike Castle refuses to endorse her and Republican establishments are refusing to give her money. She's being painted as a fringe candidate who is out of touch with mainstream America.
A few weeks before the primary Beltway Buzz sat down with O'Donnell. We talked about whether or not the general election will change her and if she thinks she can win against Democrat Chris Coons. Here's what she had to say (see the text of her answers below the video).
Beltway Buzz: Can you guarantee your supporters, if you are successful in this primary, that the Christine that we see now will be the same Christine that we see on the other side of the primary?
Christine O'Donnell: Absolutely. I have told my supporters, through your prayers and your accountability I want to remain the same and that's exactly what we need and this term is up in four years, if you don't like what you see vote me out. You can vote me out but it's time to replace career politicians with citizen politicians and I'm very hopeful because I believe that's what's gonna happen across the board.
We also asked O'Donnell about the naysayers who say she can't win the general election because she's too conservative for a blue state like Delaware. Here's what she says to that.
Beltway Buzz: What do you say to that?
Christine O'Donnell: That's one of the push backs that you hear all across the country is that insurgent candidates who want to return to the roots might be able to win primaries but they can't win the general, well that's not true. I have no doubt that when we win that primary we are going to push ahead into a double digit lead because that's going to give everyone the excitement and the momentum that we need to spring board into the general. Also, again this year what we see are visionaries and leaders, visionaries and leaders taking back our country. Visionaries see how the impossible becomes possible. Leaders then take that message into the communities and make that vision happen so it's exciting that people can see past the polls into what needs to happen to bring America back.
