A resolution honoring the life and work of the late Michael Jackson isn't necessary according to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi.
Earlier this week Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee of Texas traveled to Los Angeles to speak at Jackson's public memorial service. She held up a framed picture of a resolution she sponsored honoring the King of Pop and promised the audience it would be debated on the House floor, but that won't come to pass. Today Speaker Pelosi says Michael Jackson was a "great performer", but that a resolution isn't necessary.
A resolution, would open the door to contrary views and would only serve as a distraction for lawmakers. Especially as Judge Sonia Sotomayor faces the Senate Judiciary Committee for her confirmation hearings next week and lawmakers in both houses continue working to forge a compromise on health care reform.
