What's Holding You Back?

I just got off the phone with a woman who was in tears over her desire to lose 30 pounds. It was one of the saddest conversations I have ever had with a reader of mine--or a friend!

She so desperately wants to lose the weight but something, or in this case, someone is holding her back.

That is a terrible feeling and a horrible thing to sit by and watch happen to someone. NO ONE should be allowed to steal your joy, to ruin your day or to keep you from realizing your dreams and goals.

NOT EVEN YOURSELF!

That's right, sometimes it is US who is holding us back. We can allow an overwhelming feeling of despair to take over and we lose control. Do not despair, do not be afraid. You are not alone. God walks with you on your path.

I want you to figure out what is hindering your progress and move past it! IF it's an individual; reassure them it's the fat you want to lose--not them! Reassure yourself that God is with you and that you can succeed.

Don't let anything stop you from realizing the life you want, life is short and you don't get to repeat what you don't get right! Where is the best place to turn when you feel that something is holding you back or hindering you from getting healthier? The bible! These are a few quotes that I find to be very helpful when thinking about what we eat and why.

"Do you not yet understand, that whatsoever enters in at the mouth, goes into the belly, and is cast out into the sewer?" ~ Matthew 15:17

"Be not anxious for what you shall eat, or what you shall drink ... or what you shall wear ... Isn't life more than food? ... and the body more than clothing?" ~ Luke 12:22; 29

"Man does not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God." ~ Matthew 4:4

"The kingdom of God is not eating and drinking, but righteousness and peace, and joy in the Holy Spirit." ~ Romans 14:17

"Your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit ... therefore, glorify God in your body." ~ I Corinth 3:16; 6:19-20

As you read those, didn't they immediately bring a little peace to your thoughts? Imagine if you read them daily and/or every time you feel discouraged or challenged on your weight loss journey?

Print them out and put them on a 3x5 card and read them when you need someone in your corner and some additional strength.

# RE: What's Holding You Back?

Just make sure you don't have any other issues. I had an hormone producing ovarian cyst,{I'm 58, looked like I was 8 months pregnant!], now that it is gone, my mood has improved, I've lost some weight, and some inches.
Some times I think we tend to over think things, or unnecessarily, over psychoanalyze a situation. Many of the professionals do this and waste our time and our money, and perhaps endanger our health even further.
They will tell you to lose weight, and this or that, and it ends up being an exercise in futility. Thus begins the cycle of despair. As I've heard before "The road to hell is often paved with good intentions!"

Thank you!

# RE: What's Holding You Back?

Mariar56, you rarely hear the "the path to good health is paved with unhealthy actions" though! So, it is better to live healthfully, not to "diet" not to "try to lose weight" but rather to try to live healthfully because it makes us feel better, look better, increases our rate of longevity and decreases our chance of getting ill--and helps us get over them if we do!

LadyJacklara, glad you liked the story!
