Why Am I So Tired?

I am the parent of a college student--a freshman and she was just diagnosed as having Epstein Barr/ Chronic fatigue syndrome--at 18! Well, as it turns out more people than imaginable end up with this, like 95% of us.

When her diagnosis was made, I immediately emailed Dr. David. L Katz and Dr. Mehmet Oz--ok, I am the luckiest girl in the world to be able to contact them for an opinion, I am well aware of that and very thankful--and very relieved!

Turns out EBV/CFS are real and a pain to live with--they are just that, something you live with. You don't die from it, you die with it and since most people have it, and is as Dr. Katz said "essentially just mono" I think the question begs to be asked WHY are so many people getting it and what do we do about it.

Dr Oz referred me to endfatigue.com Dr.Teitlebaum's site that helps you go from Fatigued to Fabulous. There you learn many ways of coping with what in my opinion is the typical life that plagues the majority of us, whether young people or "OLD" like me--we're worn out.

Is it our toxic American diet?

Is it the sugar-laden soft drinks or Aspartame laced diet Coke (right...they have come out with Vitamin laced diet coke, that makes it a healthy product, right?! WRONG!)
Is is the unhealthy Monster and Redbull drinks being consumed by the youth of america?

I have spent the last 2 days living in my daughter's dorm trying to help her figure out how to implement that lifestyle changes recommended by the experts I trust, and let me tell you--it isn't easy on a college campus. I have never seen a cinnamon roll as big as one in their cafe and the cafeteria foods? Better than when I attended Mizzou but still no where near like what Dr. Katz eats--whole foods plant based and healthy.

So, are we sick and tired? Are YOU tired of being sick and tired? Let's do something about it; get healthier!

# RE: Why Am I So Tired?

I would emphasize though the importance of proper hydration. A technique I was taught about a year ago is to drink six glasses of water (it's difficult when you are starting!) first thing in the morning. Then wait about 45 minutes or an hour (while you are getting ready) to eat or drink anything else. Then continue drinking clean pure water the rest of the day as normal. This technique stimulates all the internal organs and brings them rapidly to prime condition. You will feel the difference in a few days. Also another tip is to take ice cold showers. It will feel you with super energy and also make you sleep better at night

What does diet have to do with EPV/Chronic Fatigue Syndrome? What kind of diet can possibly make a difference in chronic fatigue?

Am a 28 years old single mum mother.I weolud like to have an answer to the problem coz it really takes away the best of me everday. Meaning I only perform 50%. And I know that there are so many young people like me going through this.

# RE: Why Am I So Tired?

i'm 32 yrs old, have 3 kids and work a full time job. I'm always tired. In my early twenties and middle twenties I was able to handle 2 kids, a full time job, and parttime school. I would clean my house everyday before i went to bed (im a clean freak) and had the energy for it and never had a problem of being as tired as i feel now. I know age can be a factor but i'm sick of being tired everyday. I don't have energy in the morning for work.I"m been getting to work late because i can't make my self get out of bed and i go to bed about 10 and wake up about 6 so i'm getting the sleep. I'm going to try drinking more water and eatingmore fruits and exercising more and see if this works but anyone has more ideas plaese help.

Everyone, so sorry that it took me this long to responsd. After getting home from my "college" stay, Easter and family took me away for a week.

Epstein Barr and Chronfic fatigue are very real ailments that so many people contend with in their lives--the question of how best to live with it is being studied more today than ever before.

Perhaps the world's best expert is Dr. Jacob Teitelbaum, www.endfatigue.com he was personally recommended to me by Dr. Mehmet Oz, so that speaks volumns!

# RE: Why Am I So Tired?

What I have learned thus far and what I am doing for my daughter's care; is Yes, plenty of water, although she always has consumed a lot. But, we are banning other beverages she often drinks like a Starbucks ANYTHING, bottled teas, Fuze, etc. ALL have caffiene, too much sugar/calories and/or aspartame/splenda.

We are eliminating aspartame, splenda, MSG (and the numerous hidden names used to disguse it!!!). I think those chemicals are VERY dangerous, very unhealthy and if you think about it, WHY are so many people sick and tired? We consume these at alarming rate. Any coicidence?

# RE: Why Am I So Tired?

I know that a proper diet filled with essential nutrients and void of JUNK foods, a consistent exercise regime, water and a positive attitude/prayer can improve just about any health condition. I am confident it will help with this one.

As for supplementation, we have her taking C0 E Q-10, Juice Plus+ Garden, Orchard, Vineyard(www.JPSupplement.com) I am having her drink one can of VERVE energy drink every day(www.myVerve.com/YOUonVEmma), she is starting her day with a Juice Plus+ complete shake w/ banana, ice cubes and soy milk.

There will be more supplements to come after Dr. Teitelbaum reviews her results, too

# RE: Why Am I So Tired?

I can't work due to injuries so I'm home all the time. I can get around pretty well for awhile untill the pain stops me and tells me thats enough. Then I am just sitting, or lying down, get up to eat or drink, take a bath, feed the cats, not much at all....but then I feel totally tired, no energy at all, WHY? My husband comes home from work and makes dinner for us,(he's use to my pain proublem's by now, it's been 16 years since I was injured in auto accident) I help when he lets me! By the time we are done eating dinner, I'm ready to fall right out. I have to get up and walk alittle bit to shake off being tired, sometimes it works, sometimes I can sit back down and feel that tired feeling comming right back over me again? I know I don't have Mono, or that I don't feel sick at all. What is wrong with me, am I just bored, do I have some kind of depression going on, I just can't seem to shake this, whatever it is? What's wrong with me?

# RE: Why Am I So Tired?

I was extremely fatigued also. The doctor sent me to have a blood test and they took 20 vials of blood to test. Naturally, everything came back "normal".
I decided to take matters into my own hands. Now I am much better. I am drinking a functional beverage that is helping me get my life back. If you go to www.nature.freelife.com you will see what the new product is and the clinical double blind study that was done as well.

# RE: Why Am I So Tired?

Ginbarbara, I would encourage you to read From Fatigued to Fantastic, it will give you some great tips.

I would have you get in some exercise each day, even if you are tired, force yourself to do what are you ABLE to do. A little walk, some arm weights--something. and do it daily and strive to increase over time what you are doing.

We have two choices in life, do nothing; and take the risk things can get worse.
Or:
do something! and try to improve things!
