Obesity Gone Wild

I have a confession to make. I watched 3 hours straight of TV last night. I NEVER do that, but I did. What I watched amazed me -- 2 episodes of TLC's "Half Ton Man". It was like seeing a wreck, I had to look and couldn't stop watching!

Two men who weighed over 1200 pounds were featured. OVER 1200 pounds!

One man, Manuel Uribe was trying the Zone diet to help him lose weight -- it worked well for him as he did lose 500 pounds, but what I noticed was that he washed his Zone egg white omlet down with a Sprite!

And the other man, Patrick Deuel was an admitted fast food/soft drink addict. His wife would leave for church, leaving a plate of sweet rolls or a big mac and fries next to him--he couldn't get out of bed and get his own food--all he could eat was what she left for him---ask yourself this: what would have happened if she ONLY gave him healthy foods? She said "there would be hell to pay if she didn't give him what he wanted", my question is what could he have done--heck, he needed to lose 700 pounds just to be able to get out of bed. Her pastor said it right, he felt what she was doing was assisted suicide.

Finally, one morbidly obese person at the featured Brookhaven in patient weight loss facility who weighed 565 pounds, said that he had to get serious about losing weight; and was going to start "tomorrow".

Today folks. What is wrong with TODAY! With right NOW!?

If you have 25 pounds you would like to lose  or 100+ that you NEED to lose, what is wrong with right now? What is holding you back from starting to change right now?

I am here to help if you want to change the "vice busting" way!

So what's your greatest challenge when it comes to losing weight?  Log in and tell us.

# RE: Obesity Gone Wild

I work at a sedentary job and it's hard trying to find the time to exercise consistently and find good lunch options when my workload gets really hectic.

my problem is two-fold. i don't enjoy exercising, so i rarely commit the time to do it. and i eat too much, more specifically i graze. i feel like i'm constantly snacking on something in between meals. i drink a lot of water, but i still feel the urge to munch on something. i get bored i guess - even when i'm working or doing something at home. help me!

I was going to the gym about 4 times a week, then summer and vacations hit, and I only go about once every 2 weeks now. Also, I tend to eat the most at night, snacking. (For the record, I'm supposed to eat several small meals throughout the day because I have IBS).

Judith, get a pedometer today! wear it daily and see how active you are and how many steps you get, then make it a game to get at least a 100 more steps each day than you did the day before. Before you know it you can be at 10,000 steps a day and be healthier and thinner!

CareBear--first, focus on the grazing. Rather than change "who" you are, change how you do it! Graze! But, change what you graze on to fresh raw fruits and veggies one a serving of raw almonds! More fiber, less calories and weight loss will happen!

Once that habit is set, work on exercise!

Bubba, first rule, NEVER take a vacation from health, so next time when vacation comes, make sure you still exercise!!! Then, you never have to "get back on track" again! will make life a lot easier!

OK, now you have to eat more throughout the day and less at night in one sitting so you don't flare your IBS!

my body is messed up from taking anxiety pills. I am trying to deal with it but with age, stress, and the effects it has put me in a sad state. The willpower has left too. So, I am starting slowly by taking vitamins but consistency is an issue too. What a mess:)

I am not a person that snacks constantly but I get cravings for high carb foods and drinks that are really bad. Things like Soda, donuts, chocolate. I can keep myself from eating them for a while then I loose the battle. I have tried the Atkins Diet, Counting carbs and counting calories. I don't exercise much but enjoy gardening in the spring and summer months. I injured my back in 1991 and it is very hard to do any amount of cardio exercise.

My problem is I start off good, commiting my appetite & day to the Lord but by the end of the day I blow it! My hardest time is at night, although I snack on healthy snacks, I overeat on them. I have a hard time getting all 8+ glasses of water down. My motabolism is very slow, then I get discouraged & give up. It seems like a vicious circle & I can't seem to get the victory in this area of my life. I have a hard time staying consistant with dieting & exercise.

I am house-poor, so I get neither food stamps nor a balanced diet. I had an L3-L4 discectomy ten years ago, and I recently 25% compression fractured my L1 vertebra, so crunches and reverse situps are out of the question. My depression meds work against my metabolic rate. I have a part-time Macjob, but it doesn't burn any of my 50 pounds of belly fat. I'm trying to save toward liposuction, but it's tough on $150 a week.

Assistance? Suggestions? Sympathy?

Hattier, You beat Cancer, now it is time to beat your excess weight--I KNOW you can do it! First, do what you CAN do! If your knees ache, do arm exercises lifting 2lb weights to start out, doing overhead presses, tricep presses, and bicep curls. then, do sit ups and leg lifts down on the floor, NONE of these will hurt your knees and will help get weight off! Look at the clock and do up to 5 minutes of weights and up to 5minutes of situps and leg lifts--but do it 3 times this week--then go 1 minute longer each time weekly and increase the frequency, until after 6 months, you are doing 30 minutes or more 4-5 times a week!

As the weight comes off, you will be able to move more and get some walking.

Momi_Dari, dieting can be stressful and overwhelming when we try to change everything at once! Rather than do that, change ONE thing! Just make it your goal this week and next to drink 1/2 your body weight in fluid ounces of water! (if you weigh 300, you would drink 150 ounces a day!) NOT in one sip or sitting but in small sips thoroughout the day.

It will decrease your appetite, help w/ overall health and put ONE success stress-lessly under your belt!
DO IT! I promise, NOT doing anything about your weight will only cause more stress and health problems!

Wind_dancer, you need Vice Busting! I will help you break ONE of your vices, ONE at a time! I would have you start w/ busting Soda! ONE a day puts 15 pounds a year on the human body, just ONE!

Drink water instead! Drink 1/2 your body weight in fluid ounces of water! (if you weigh 300, you would drink 150 ounces a day!) NOT in one sip or sitting but in small sips thoroughout the day.

It will decrease your appetite and empower you because you will succeed at making ONE change rather than starting a diet only to fail eventually!

Then, we will take on your next vice once this one is set and solid!

Hildawalker, what happens is that you start the day "ON a diet" but like 71% of people, you break it either that day or by the end of the week. YOU are not willpower defiecnt, dieting just doesn't work!

So we know dieting isn't the solution. I KNOW that Vice Busting IS!

My way is would be to have you 1st, focus on that water, get it down and even more. JUST focus on that first. Then, after you are doing that everyday for 2-3 weeks, let me know and we can figure out what is next or, I highly recommend getting my program and using it! It helps you every step of the way for 26 weeks and up to 50 pounds off!

# RE: Obesity Gone Wild

GospelMidi, I would have you do a lot differently. First off, why spend all of your excess money on Liposuction? I really view that as finishing touches and perfection seeking, NOT weight loss. It is dangerous and NOT necessary!

Cardio not situps will increase your metabolism, so do more of that, it will help a great deal! And, nothing is better for boosting endorphines and improving mood than exercise! It will help in many ways--weight loss, mood and money!

My entire program, 26-weeks and up to 50 pounds off is only $149! and you can make 3 payments on it, so better than spending on lipo and quicker results since you can't go have surgery today, but you can get started busting your vices right now!

as for diet, drink as much water as you can up to 1/2 your body weight in ounces, eat as much fruit and veggies, beans...Dean Ornish has shown a vegetarian diet is less expensive and healthier than you can imagine, so it may be an option for you!

I just can't see doing those no-carb, no-sugar diets. And health food has no taste to me. I want to be thin but I don't want to be miserable either.

I have a balanced diet, eating vegetables, having fruit sometimes.I do drink water every day, but must have sugar in my tea and other hot drinks. I can't take sugar alternatives. Any suggestions?

I know that from my other blog I may have my vices but this has to do about having sugar in tea and hot drinks. I tried the sugar substitutes for several years and then Pat spoke about health issues on it, I felt led to figure something out and went back to sugar. I began with 2 tsp then 1tsp and gradually I quit using sugar in coffee and tea and now I lost the taste for it. My vice now is mostly breads.
