An Open Letter to Anne Rice

Greetings all,

In light of published reports last week on author Anne Rice’s statement that she was “breaking from Christianity,” I thought it was important that I communicate with her directly.

I interviewed Ms. Rice last January for The 700 Club, and the response to that interview resulted in approximately 500 people calling in to CBN to make a commitment to the Lord.

I personally believe Anne Rice’s journey from atheism to a belief in Jesus Christ is genuine.

Below, please find my initial correspondence to Ms. Rice last week. I publish this simply to underscore a principle that would behoove us all to adhere to. Rather than buy into secondhand gossip that so often simply “scratches itching ears”, we should  where possible, go to the source and seek out the truth that so many of us profess.

With her permission, in the next few days I will publish Anne Rice’s response to me without any of the “spin” that is accompanying much of the commentary that is cluttering this woman’s heartfelt journey.

For those who believe in the efficacy of prayer…please do so for Anne Rice.

Tomorrow: Anne Rice’s response to me.

Thanks folks,
Scott Ross

Dear Ms. Rice (Anne)

In light of the recent purported statement from Facebook, I thought I would send you my response to some of our viewers writing me with questions who saw our interview as broadcast on The 700 Club last January.

Anne, I want to represent you properly so rather than go around the “blogosphere,” I follow the Scriptural injunction to go directly to the source.

Here is how I am responding to our inquirers:

My read of her  is that she does have a heart for the Lord personally, but does struggle with a lot of positions  that some Christian’s take.  I have my own struggles with the Christian sub-culture and church (in the broadest sense) in America.

Not everything that represents the Church reflects its Master who is its head.

I just pray the Holy Spirit would lead Ms. Rice into further clarity and her own personal relationship in her walk with the Lord, which I believe to be real.

Ms. Rice, I hope this conveys my thoughts and represents you without direct confirmation of your personal convictions.

Thank you,

Scott

# RE: An Open Letter to Anne Rice

I remember seeing that very touching interview last year. I guess that's why I was shocked when I just saw the tail end of Ms. Rice on Joy Behar's show as I was changing the channels. I heard her frustration, but my first thought was, I wonder if she has wrestled with these thoughts alone? Does she, or did she, seek wisdom and understanding in talking other Christians? She seems to lean towards being disgusted with the Catholic church, (and some maybe rightly so) but I wonder if she considered that there are other places of worship? The whole strikes me as sad. It's been made to sound in the media as if an epiphany has taken place, but she doesn't seem to be content or peaceful about it.... And so, I will pray for her.
