Why President-Elect Barack Obama Needs Our Prayers

Today's commentary is from my friend and guest blogger Andy Freeman:

The election has concluded. While there will be many with sore feelings, everyone who walks under the banner of Christ must come together and intercede for Barack Obama. We are specifically instructed to do so in the Word of God. During the Clinton Presidency, Christians spent more time criticizing and hating the man than lifting him before the Lord. While he made mistakes in his personal life and Presidency, we failed the man and faltered in our duty as believers.

Why does Barack Obama need your prayers?

#1. He will make decisions that influence countless people in signficant ways.

#2. He faces incredibly difficult challenges in our economy, as well as two difficult wars in the Middle East. Barack Obama is an ordinary man who will require extraordinary wisdom and strength to deal with these serious issues.

#3. He will be surrounded by many people who have their own agenda or simply want to be "yes" men to him. We must pray for wise counsel and truth to be presented to Barack Obama as he leads the nation.

#4. No matter what I Timothy tells us to do as believers, plenty of saints and sinners will slander and attack Barack Obama because he was not their candidate of choice or he does not represent all the policies they hold for government. The Bible clearly states that "the heart of the King is like a river in the hands of the Lord, that He turns whichever way He wishes." Prayer changes things - hate and slander only fuels evil.

#5. There will be many temptations that the new President will have to face. Power, wealth and compromise. Still others will wish him ill. We must pray that the Lord guards his heart, protects the President and his family and steers him on the path of truth and righteousness during his time in office.

The Bible is full of examples of leaders who knew the blessings and guidance of God almighty and others who made the mistake of accepting bad counsel, falling to temptation or simply going their own way. Still others appeared to be ready to take nations on a path to destruction but found God's blessing, direction and favor.

The next President of the United States is Barack Obama. The leadership he provides and decisions he makes are waiting to be affected by the prayers of the saints.

What will you do to honor God's direction in I Timothy and help write the story of the next four years of American history?

Send Andy Freeman your e-mail response.

# RE: Why President-elect Barak Obama Needs Our Prayers

I agree completely. Of course, I wanted McCain to win, but what's done is done. As Christians we MUST pray earnestly for this man. If you have a hard time having the heart to do that, ask God to give you His love for President-Elect Obama. He has a hard job in front of him and we must stand beside the ruler of the country we've all been blessed with and lift him up in our prayers.

# RE: Why President-elect Barak Obama Needs Our Prayers

I realize all this ... why the next president needs our prayers, but I thought we'd been praying all this for President Bush, as well. Yet, he has been persecuted severely. Obama and Bush BOTH are just ordinary men, yet Obama on Oprah's show was called a Joshua and Dr. King was called his Moses. Certain people have lifted this man high just because he's black, when the present president has been trashed at every turn. Black has nothing to do with it, even though the black community and the young people seem to think that automatically makes him qualified to lead this nation. Certainly, he needs God's guidance to lead this nation for the welfare of EVERYBODY, but he is already being portrayed as a "god". And people can not differentiate between right and wrong anymore. Certainly, right or wrong is NOT certain talk hosts' agenda! Isn't there a verse in Revelation that states that there will come a time when people cannot tell the difference between right and wrong?

I know we are supposed to pray for our presidents. But THIS man is different. He IS a muslim- which means he serves a very different god than Jesus Christ. I don't care what church he has attended here or anywhere else. What if this man turns out to be the anti-christ? It is possible. Should we pray for him then?

# RE: Why President-elect Barak Obama Needs Our Prayers

Jeri - George Bush has been blessed to be held up in prayer in the midst of that persecution. We should press in for him even more in prayer during these important final days of office. But we should not withhold our prayers for future leaders. In regards to Obama's fan club,
it is quite reminscent of the excitement of Catholics with JFK, Born Again Christians with Jimmy Carter and Conservatives and Evangelicals with Ronald Reagan. So many were excited when these respective Presidents gained office to represent their constituencies and provide a feeling of representation.

Alli - God turned the hearts of leaders who worshipped idols and burned incense in the high places. He turned around one of the greatest persecutors of Christians on the road to Damascus. How much more can the Lord do when the prayers of the righteous availeth so much? If he should be an end times figure, then look up for your salvation draweth nigh!

First of all, you all really need to learn how to spell...it's BARACK not BARAK. Secondly, Obama is NOT Muslim and so what if he was? Aren't Christians supposed to love Muslims too? They are just as worthy of love, support and respect as anyone else...so alli needs to wake up!

Why do people insist on saying he is a muslim? He has said very clearly that his redemption comes through Jesus Christ. Tell me what muslim would say something like that. Tell me what person aside from a Christian would make that claim...

Tell ya,I've got a very hard time praying for him, seriously. And I know I'm not alone either. I just think this nation is headed for judgement. When we put a far left liberal individual in the highest office of the land who says one thing and does another and is very pro abortion, how can we be blessed? We're in trouble. He's the exact opposite of what this Country needs. I used to be proud of my Country but man,now I'm definately not sure. I'm ashamed, really. It really makes me sick to my stomach....

First I must tell you I was very sad that you a Christian cannot understand why this man was voted in office. When you read in Revelation 13 you will find the description of the new world leader Barrack Huessien Obama. This president came up without one opposition to the highest office President of the United States. Dispite the fact that He will not show any patriotism for this country. He renounced the "Sermon on the mount" blatently stating that Christianity will not work in this day and age. He has been found to have direct ties with Muslim Terriosts and leader who are anti semetic and want to destroy Israel. And when asked to pledge his oath of honesty, he refused to use a Christian Bible and ask for the Quaran. And after all this he denies he is a muslim. And the most appalling fact is Muslims mission and their faith admits that America is there worst enemy. And by what power did this man become President of the United States...This may be something to think about....

How can fear dominate the discussions about the new President.I thought perfect love cast out fear!Could it be that God is trying to speak to the evangelical movement in the USA.I see in Scripture that God is on the side of the victim/scapegoat and hence judges the scapegoat mechanism that is the heart of all religion ( no matter what variety). The resurrection has turned the old ways upside down!God has validated Yeshua and His message of the Loving Heavenly Father - the human and divine blame is over.In Christ God has reconciled the world to Himself - it's done and dusted.Let's not try and be God's sheriff's especially when He is ALWAYS reaching out with this news of the reconciliation to a sceptical world.Pray for Barak and pray that God's people may come together and not condemn each other. This condemnation is the essence of ancient religion and not of the Good News.

I believe the church as a whole should wake up and smell the coffee. We talk about the love of God but we don't model that especially on sunday mornings where we are so seperated because of our denomination. What is so wrong about black americans wanting to see a man of color in the white house for a change, it's because some americans think he's not good enough because he doesn't fit our ideal of a president. To me this is of the devil. We as a body of believers need to get it together, where is the light? how can we say we love God and can't rightfully love a man who is a child of God? whose skin just happens to be of a different shade. We are hiding behind moral issues that is between the person and God, when really it's because of who he is. I've lived outside the USA for 10 years, now I live in a southern state and you can see the bitterness because of the outcome. Unrighteous people will do what they please regardless of any law. I believe this is a part of Dr King's dream.

Sporty and itsyaya4 have made an excellent argument for exactly why he needs our prayers so desperately. I have many of the same concerns which is why I didn't vote for the man, but he is now our President. I also believe the potential exists for much persecution of Christians which further bolsters the argument for earnest prayer. I repent of my attitudes I've held in my heart for this man and will pray for his salvation, pray for wisdom and for God to use him to bring this country back to good standing with God. Think of the testimony to God's goodness and mercy if Barack brought about THAT sort of change!! "...but with God all things are possible."

If you voted in this election out of fear, you probably didnt vote according to God's will. that being said, how can we persecute a man who has done nothing to hurt our country. I think you will all be shocked when he appoints a conservative judge to the supreme court. He will do so not for political points, but because he wants people on the court who can weigh facts on their own merits, abstracting themselves from their own personal desire or opinion.

This has absolutely nothing to do with Mr. Obama's skin color. If Alan Keys, who is a true christian black man had run for president, he would have gotten my vote. This is about the anti-christ spirit. The bible says that anyone that means ANYONE who denies that Jesus is the one and only son of God has the anti-christ spirit. This man can say whatever he wants, but you shall know them by their fruit. I do believe that he was planted here in the senate by the terrorists. Wow. They must be laughing at how ignorant we are right about now. And to the person that said I need to wake up, maybe you do too. We ARE called to love ALL people, to pray for them and to try to reach them with the true gospel. But, these things in the end times will come. Please don't be deceived.

I am so glad that I read this blog. I did not vote for Obama and I wanted to cry for this nation when he was elected. I felt sorry for this country who had elected a man that I feel has deceived the American people about his true agenda, and I believe to be anti-Israel. This blog post helped open my eyes. I prayed as a previous poster had, for God to give me love for this new president, to desire to pray for him, for his wisdom, and his heart. I have to learn to not feel sorry for this nation, but to rejoice in the fact that Jesus is still Lord no matter who our president is.

God Bless!

Alli, I think the point of the article is to say pray for the man who's going to lead our country and lays out reasons why. I don't think the author is saying we shouldn't pay attention to what he's doing or that we can't bring up disagreements should they exist. If he does turn out to be an apocolyptic type of character then I don't know what to suggest except that you and I need to constantly make sure our respective relationships with the Lord are pure.

I keep praying that Obama will be washed in the Precious Blood of Jesus. I Hope he will Change. BUT Obama is a Socialist. He is to the Left of Bernie Sanders a self admitted Socialist. He Promised Planned Parenthood that he will sign The Freedom Of Choice Act, which will Force all Taxpayers to Pay for Abortions including killing botched aborted babies (babies born alive). This is extreme even for the most Liberal of Democrats. We need to Pray in Jesus name that The Freedom Of Choice Act never reaches his desk! So yes Obama needs our prayers! The USA needs our prayers. Obama and his terrorist ties, voter fraud ACORN connections, Abortion stance, Extreme liberalness, and Racist remarks from his own autobiographies and from his own mouth have been Ignored! To expect -- or wish for -- our President Elect to fail would be to root against our country, and everything so many before us -- such as John McCain! -- have fought for. We must trust and expect and hope that the weighty role that Obama must now play imbues him with a sense of responsibility to ALL of us, not just to certain special interest groups that put so much into this race. Our nation needs prayer, and that prayer MUST extend to the President Elect (no matter how we may have voted); wouldn't it be awesome if God worked a miracle in this man's heart and policies even as he is in office? I pray for him to seek God's wisdom and guidance, and to heed His direction, even if it goes against what has made him (in some circles) popular. And I pray that this election will serve as a wake-up call to those of us who do not want to surrender our nation to the whims of the ungodly. We need to assert ourselves, and seek God's favor and wisdom in doing so.

# RE: Why President-Elect Barack Obama Needs Our Prayers

I do agree with the critiques of Barack Obama's liberal voting record and classic democratic tax and spend politics. His choice for chief of staff confirms his history:
Rahm Emanuel, the son of Jewish immigrants who fought in Israel's war to become a nation. Emanuel worked for Bill Clinton - not exactly reaching across the aisle. Obama being a Muslim or the Anti-Christ is sensationalism; time is required to reveal such things and being a prophet is not easy.

I still believe it unwise to disobey the scriptural command to intercede for those in authority. Paul does not tie this to liberals or conservatives. Those Christians prayed for Roman and Jewish leaders who persecuted them.

The other two options people are offering are to sit on our hands like Jonah and wait for Obama's judgement, or simply to damn him, his wife and daughters to hell. Neither of these reflect the grace and love of our Savior, nor lead to us living "Godly and peaceful lives" as the Bible promises from our prayer

Are there any real christians in here?! I am reading these posts and it sounds like pure hate. God is love and OF COURSE God wants you to pray for Barack Obama! So, I understand if you are upset because Barack Obama is the next president. It is what it is. But he still needs our prayers. A prayer for him is a prayer for us too. I am deeply saddened by the racist remarks by so called christians on here. Black, white, whatever we are supposed to be God's children. How would you talk if Jesus were sitting right next to you? Would you say you wouldn't pray for him then? I personally can not understand why people hate this man so much. He ran a campaign without getting involved in dirty politics. He didn't try to run his oppoent into the ground. He did it with grace even when people were calling him a terrorist. John McCain doesn't even claim to be a christian. But so many people are backing him?! This was not a one issue election, but so many narrow minded people only looked at it one way.

These are some sites that will verify the fact that we need a voter recount in florida, north carolina, virginia, ohio, indiana, missouri, iowa, colorado, and new mexico.

look it up on google under "acorn buses homeless to vote". one guy on some of the links filled out a voter registration "73" times in 5 months. I wonder how many other millions are duplicates or illegal aliens (12 million of them in the US) voted with illegal identification? McCain lost the election by 1,003,712 votes in 9 states, and how many votes were fraudulent?

Some of you Evangelical Christians and otherwise would stoop to any level to dismiss the fact that President Obama was God's sovereign choice. How can he be any worse than the Bushes? You must reckon with the fact that you still need deliverance from ideas of grandeur within Christ's body, as you absolutely refuse to acknowledge that this African-American is your Commander in Chief. He is no worse than you as you have expressed your hatred for him, and that makes you a murderer! You are whitewashed walls and notice judgement begins in the house of the Lord. We are praying for our president and you.

The us/them divide that is the Fundamentalist/Evangelical world view is opposed to what Jesus actually taught and modelled in His ministry. He ate with the 'sinner class' breaking the holiness laws of His day.Was he afraid of the tax collectors and sinners - No.His words to the Pharisees uncovered what lay behind their piety - murder.Their ancestors had murdered the prophets but the Pharisees built tombs to their memory denyiny that they would have done the same to the prophets.Jesus said they were liars like their father (Satan - Adversary -Accuser) who was a murderer from the beginning.Jesus' words proved true as the Pharisees along with others did in fact 'murder' a prophet,Jesus Himself.Today we Christians claim we would murder no-one,as the Jewish religious leaders did,but in so doing we are repeating the scapegoating ritual sacrifice of the Pharisees. We still kill God's prophets with our violent words assasinating their reputations. We who have ears to hear let us hear.

Never thought citing scripture and calling for prayer could be so controversial.

Alan - The Democrats argued chads in Florida and Nixon's team wanted a recount against Kennedy. Do you really want to go there? McCain was outcampaigned - he turned out youth, won the Hillary soccer moms and the Jewish and Hispanic communities in large numbers.

Gazelle - to say all Evangelicals need deliverance from ideas of grandeur is not any
more positive than what those who are angry or fearful are saying on this blog. If you read closely, one in every three postings are praying for the President-elect and his family.
I encourage you to avoid broad-brushing Evangelicals, they are a part of the wonderful body of Jesus Christ alive on the earth today.

Prayer is very powerful and God expects us to lift up our leaders, especially in trying times like now. I'd been working in kuwait for 12 years and i'm telling you, you can not trust the blood and roots. Even if he claims he is a Christian, his middle name can not change the truth that he is a muslim. I would like to say, that I did vote for Barack Obama and am praying for him. I am a Born Again Spirit Filled Christian and have been saved for 29 yrs.

My people came to America in Chains. They were enslaved, beaten, could not be educated because it was against the law for a slave to read or write. They were told that they were not a real person but was more like a cat or dog. Some were lynched, some were beaten, etc.

Once the slaves were free after the Civil War, laws were legislated against them and they were denied to right to vote. There were segregated rest rooms, water fountains, parks, schools, restaurants. They were denied Jobs because of the Color of their skin.

People were killed because they stood up again a system that was wrong and you tell me, it was unchristian to vote for Barack Obama. I say, it was unchristian to enslave, and denied a person's rights because of the color of their skin. I will pray for our President Barack Obama

You are right, nothing is impossible with God, but he already has told us what is going to happen through his word. This is not about the 'issues' or about race. It is about the 'character' of a man. Why don't you read his books? Listen to him in his own words talk about the bible (you tube). Don't take mine or anyone's word for anything. I will pray for our Lord's will to be done. But in the bible it says that even some of the 'elect' will be deceived. I pray that this man has nothing to do with end-time prophecy. But I think he does.

Alerts need to be sounded about this new administration, or do you guys just want us to be loving, yellow-belly weaklings as the spirit of the 'anti-christ' takes over. It is a probability that our flags can diminish, our bibles can be plucked, and the freedoms that so many have laid down their lives are currently more forgotten than ever. I fully believe that a Muslim (school records stated Islam)is elected president, and please don't insult God by saying pray for his regime'. Why don't I just bow down and pray for Satan? Jillian - yellow-bellied and bow down to pray to Satan? Ouch! Not the way I live my faith - and my prayers are directed to Jesus Christ.

The scriptures we must consider are from Paul's writings "Pray for those in authority over you that you may live Godly and peaceful lives." As I mentioned before, when Paul wrote this the Roman and Jewish leadership persecuted Christians - yet the Apostle Paul called for prayer. Also, in the Old Testament we are encouraged that "the heart of the King is like a river in the hands of the Lord. He turns it whatever direction he wants." Obey, ignore or reject these scriptures - it's up to each of us.

Also, Obama is a Universalist. Consider his quote: “I believe there are many paths to the same place, and that is a belief that there is a higher power, a belief that we are connected as a people.” This type of thinking does not acknowledge the acceptance of salvation through Jesus Christ. So we most likely have another Clinton style presidency forthcoming

I am sorry, I didn't vote for Barack but I believe many of these comments are rooted in racism..ok he actually professed the Gospel, in front of a pastor. If you believe he's satan fine, but I don't think that's scriptural. Also it's christians fault Mcacin lost they were many racist christians which is the same as murder in God's eyes. Mccain refused to get baptized, has cheated on his wife and was no better.just pro life..but also favors abortion in excptions.he's the same just white.. because God is sovereign..I'm not excited either but either God wants us to be united as christians and pray about division and racism and for our leader...to stop being prejudiced and realize Christians need to not be lazy about our relationship to him. serves us right.

# RE: Why President-Elect Barack Obama Needs Our Prayers

I did not vote for Obama. Not because of his skin color, but because of where he stands on issues that are important to me.
I will be praying for our new president. That God will bless him with strength, courage, wisdom, and guidance. That he will make decisions that will benefit our country and not harm it. Just imagine what could happen if all Christians pray for Obama! God hears our prayers!
I will be praying that we will be able to keep in God we trust in our society. These are scary times indeed, but God will never leave us. We are not alone. I know who I am and who my God is. I will continue to pray because I know that is what God wants us to do.
God Bless America!!

As christians let's stop arguing over the merit of Sen Obama. This event will continue to divide us if we let it.
I did not vote for Obama because of his positions on abortion and same-sex marriage but he is now president and I have to live with it. I might as well pray for him because God can change him.

Also, bringing up race issues as the underlying motive for support or criticism of Obama is totally inappropriate. I am white and did not support Obama because of his positions not his race. I hope it get to the point where we evaluate someone based of the content of character as MLK stated.

after reading so many hatred remarks against ou President-elect Barack Obama, we definitely need to pray that God will watch over him and shield him and his family. How can people called themselves christian and judge and persecute others. God is the only one who knows the heart of man. Man sees the outside but God sees the heart. I believe that Barack Obama was elected as our president because it was in God's plan and his will.
In the Bible the pharasees and Sadducees called Jesus everything but the Son of God and even went as for as to call him the Devil.
Barack Obama is a Christian whether those that hates him believes it or not. If he is the AntiChrist as they say he is then there will be no more election. The AntiChrist will rule until Jesus comes again. These so called Christian should read their Bible and ask for understanding of God's word. If anyone that is not a christian it is definitely these hate mopnikers.I am sure God is watching over Barack and his family.

I am so glad that God doesn't hear prayers of hate monikers. But, I myself a christian prays that they will ask God to come into their heart and change them by giving them a clean heart and a loving heart. See we are all God's children and we all have fallen short of God's glory.
This election(Barack Obama) wasn't won because the majority voted for him. It was won because it was God's will not man. So, to you hate monikers, get over it. Because God's will has been done.
Now the thing for you hate moniker to do is to get your soul right with God. Because God has spoken!

Some of you have made points I agree with others are off the wall obama is not the antichrist. I do not feel like hussien obama is my president, but he will be president of my country. With that said lets see what God says.
1TI 2:1 I urge, then, first of all, that requests, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for everyone-- 2 for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness. 3 This is good, and pleases God our Savior,
For all those in authority. ANd God also says he wants obedience more than sacrifice. So lets obey God and lift up Barack Obama to God, What others say doesn't matter we have to obey God.

I agree with Jillian,His color is not the real issue and I would have voted for T.D.Jakes.I am a Native American and I can say that it wasn't a Republican that made the Cherokee march the Trail of Tears.Democrats have a bad history when it comes to race relations, when it comes to the same subject The Republican party has a great history. When it comes to the Church the Republican party has been even handed in the past. The Republican party no longer has the strength however to counter liberalism and protect God's People.Maybe it's time to emulate the Chistian Democrats of europe and form a large political party for Christians and Jewish People, maybe then We can reclaim our country for The Lord. And Yes T.D.Jakes could be our candidate for the Presidency.

Isaiah 55:8
For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, declares the LORD.

I think what we need is to accept what ever circumstances we are in. We are all sinners. Most christians now days wants to avoid tribulations. They wish to get 'raptured'. Always have an excuse to blame someone or the leader when our nation experiences perilous times. Before we can pray for Obama's Heavenly Wisdom, first we need to pray for him to have a relationship with the Lord Jesus, so that he may know the will of God. If it's God's will to condemn America because we are so sinful, my spirit would rejoice though my flesh would suffer because it's the will of God. So if we are truly faithful christians we should not be worried of anything that will happen. Through Jesus and His grace, He will deliver us- who have faith in Him. We should pray for Obama that he will say 'in Jesus name' to the public and all the nations.

Whether or not you voted for him, like him or believe he is a Christian, he is going to be the leader of this nation for four years and needs our prayers. As Christians, we are commanded to pray for our leaders. If you are unwilling to do this then you are sinning. If you will not repent from your sin, then may the Lord discipline you appropriately.

The bible says that we should pray for our leaders. It is not about how we feel but it is more a commandment from the Lord Jesus that must be followed like any other commandment.
Wether the leader is christian or not christian, God allows everything for a reason. God will even allow an atheist person to be a leader just for his will to be done.

We are a product of our roots and our pasts. Obama's muslim roots and very leftist past actions and associations make for a very questionable platform for his President-elect position. Obama's past actions do not show him to agree with God's word in any major issues. So, to those of you who say it was God's will that put him in office, be very careful what you go around saying God did. It is more accurate to say people put him in office and that, hopefully, it was done honestly. Are we to pray? Of course. I will pray that God's hand guide Obama while he is in office. i strongly believe that 90% of you people are racists. You are so close minded that you would think up and believe any rediculus thing to "cover up" your racism. Sen Obama is a Christin American and don't worry about the voting. Because here in Georgia when my cousin went to vote she chose OBAMA and McCain's name lit up and she had to continue to pick Obama before his name finally lit up. We then found out that it was happening with many other Obama voters. That never happened with McCain. And to the ignorant person above who was talking about Acorn and the whole registering to vote thing, if you were a little bit smarter and open minded you would probably understand that only REAL PEOPLE can vote. And it doesnt matter how many times they were registered, they could only vote once so sorry that little excuse for racism will not work.

And here in Georgia we did not count the early voters (which I'm sure most voted for Obama) and McCain won.I don't see any racist blacks complaining.

A Christian black man with a wife and children who has done nothing to harm you is the antichrist? And for the ignorant soul who posted that because of his middle name he is a muslim?? I am 6 months pregnant so are you trying to tell me that if I name my child Hussein, she would automatically be a muslim even though my family is and always was Christian? If this is how Christians are acting I wonder how much worse can a Muslim do when we are supposed to be loving and caring people. That's why I stopped being a republican when I saw the slanderous statements the republicans were making, it proved that they would just do anything to win. Even cheat. And McCain himself publicly contradicted himself when he stated that Barack Obama was NOT a muslim. And for those of you who are prejudice against muslims, you should ask God to help you. God hates those who do evil. His love is conditional in that those who do evil must repent and change, but I don't see Obama doing that now or in the near future. He has said repeatedly he supports the murder of the unborn.

Anyone who supports murder is a disciple of the Devil. We need to pray for our Nation and for Christians to have boldness, and for those deceived Christians who voted such a one into office to open their eyes and repent.

I did not vote for Obama. I do not wish Obama ill. Quite the contrary, I pray he'll be converted and humbled like St. Paul. The voter and the media treating him like the Messiah is being unfaithful to Jesus Christ. Some Christians have expressed more faith in Obama than in the Lord! That is idol-worship and a breaking of God's command, that we should have no other Gods before him. The last man who accepted the people's worship was the baby-killing Herod, and we all know what God did to him!

While we are commanded to pray for our leaders, and so we will, we need to keep in mind to give to Caesar what is Caesar's and what is God's to God, and not confuse the two.

Barack is not Muslim. However, he was not raised in the Church, and his only Religious training at all seems to be in the Church of Jeremiah Wright. We don't know how much of the hate and racism he harbors, if any. It is hard to believe that he sat there and listened and learned for 20 years and it took the Presidential Campaign before he denounced it. Doesn't make any sense at all.
If Race were switched with McCain being the black man and Obama being the white man, I still would have voted for McCain. He has a record and many years of experience. His love for his Country has been proven. He is an American hero in a day when they are rare, or else being defined as a football player or Rock Star! The young people have no clue what character means as I don't think much value is put on it today. I think Obama may be a very good role model for the black men in America, because he seems to be a very devoted family man who loves and honors his wife and children.

Yes, there are, and have always been types of Anti-Christs. They are put here to keep us on our toes and to keep our discernment sharp.
Whether Obama is one or not, he still needs our prayers. Even old Nebechanezzer had a change of heart and wrote one of the most beautiful prayers in the Bible. I believe Obama believes that his Socialistic ideas are correct, and in theory this may be so. But on a sliding scale it is on the way to Communism which is very easy to corrupt. If everyone was honest and pure hearted, there would be no problem, but get evil people in a few strategic places in the government, one mistep, it could all be over. Communism does not work. It's been proven over and over again. A Dictator gets control and it's all over. Capitalism/Democracy is what works best. It's been proven over and over again. When Jesus returns we will have a "Communistic" system with a Dictator! Everyone's needs will be taken care of with a loving King! It doesn't work in this world!

John McCain has professed to being a Christian.
I heard him say this in the first debate.
For me, it has never been about party, but about what is right or wrong. It bothers me that it doesn't matter to some, who Obama associates himself with or what hate- preaching Church he has associated himself with for 20 years. I just cannot believe that this doesn't matter to people. The Election was about race whether we like it or not. Black people who never voted in their lives, voted in this one. I can share in their joy and excitement of a black man being next in the White House. It just proves what a great system we have when less than 150 years ago, these people were in slavery! However, I do not believe that this person was the best one for the job. He has no record, other than being a big spender. His ideas are way too left even for many in his own party. He has 150 days in the Senate. What qualifies him?

I thank God for this election and I hope that people will finally realize HE IS NOT A MUSLIM DESPITE HIS MIDDLE NAME.

When did socialism be such a bad word? Isn't it socialism when neighbors support a bereaved family deal with their loss. Isn't is socialism when firefighters come to save your house from fire. Isn't it socialism when we help people look for missing relatives. Isn't it socialism when people donate to feed the children programs so that they can be fed. In africa, they have this saying "It takes a village to raise a child" but I guess that is socialism too.

It is sad that America has lost its Christian roots. It may not be a popular opinion but those roots (i.e. values) were the spirit that made America the envy of all nations.

I am not American, I am black and I live outside the USA but I have serious reservations about Obama. With people like O---- (popular TV figure/professed new age adherent) supporting his campaign/candidacy, it shows how deeply the nation has fallen from it Christian roots. A few decades ago people like this will not even pull this much clout in society.

My only advice is PRAY AMERICA PRAY and rebuild the prayer altars because "The king's heart is in the hand of the LORD and as the rivers of water:he turneth it whithersoever he will" (Prov. 21:1 KJV).

Your prayers will have global ramifications because if anything goes wrong with Obama's government, it will be a major gambit that will systematically weaken America and usher in the death of democracy and any concept of a free world bestowed upon humanity.

I am a pastor and African-american, I did not vote for Obama, but you can be sure our ministry will pray. We will pray daily. Itis not racism to stand for righteousness and holiness. We are facing many challenges and instead of believers putting their faith in God, they have put their hope in a man. Yes it is the Lord that raises up kings, etc.. and also allows the people to decide. The people have decided. They have their king. Now we must pray and pray daily. It is not only his liberal views that concern me, but his attitude toward national security. Lest you forget, we are in the last days and Jesus is coming soon, and there is heated escalation taking place in the middle east, between Iran, Russia, and Israel. Will he stand with Israel. I pray in Jesus name, that all believers eyes are opened and see that the day of the Lord is at hand. Repent from your sins and pray. II Chron. 7:14.

He prophecied about this election since 1998.06/28/07 says"A President that I will bring into the White house- they will say he is ungodly etc.when he comes to the white house, not only shall he be mine, but he shall pray as a man that has never prayed in the white house etc. There will be things that men shall question. Fear not, for he shall sit in that seat, and suddenly my spirit shall come upon him & baptize him with a fire & with annointing" says the spirit of the Lord. Please read more info at kimclement.com sept.5 & sept.27th shows the white house will be like a prayer house, there will be a woman there who knows how to pray etc. When I look at him, I see the man of God he's going to be.I watched everything about the election and everything in the prophecy came to pass, super Tuesday, not having a woman president, not yet.I voted for him - Also read 11/18/07 a democrat who is actually republican.

Given the outcome of this election and some of these responses, it is apparent that Obama's constituency needs more prayer than he does! I can only suggest that those who voted for Obama please study the bible as you join us all in praying for him. He certainly has already harmed our country with his wicked voting record - especially on the issue of late-term abortion. How can anyone ignore such clear evil? This 'Obama nation' is an abomination to God. What a shame that so many voters were deceived by the misled liberal democratic leaders. Obama's race is not at all relevant. Many whites like myself supported Alan Keyes in 2000, a full-blooded African. We must always study a candidate's record - realizing that God will otherwise hold us accountable for remaining ignorant and voting simply on the basis of skin color or charisma. I dislike politics immensely but I voted because I am a teacher (the role model thing) and my church was encouraging everyone to vote for the AZ Prop 102/Marriage Amendment. McCain lost but Prop 102 won!!! But on the night of the election (Obama's win wasn't official) I was watching some footage of the Martin Luther King days in the 60s. I was a young child during that turbulent decade. I had a rather disturbing thought that evening of Nov. 4th whether the 'racist' quadrant of our country will just smile and twiddle their thumbs for the next 4 -8 years. I will pray for Obama to be given great wisdom and counsel, as well as good health. I will also pray the Lord keep him and his adorable family SAFE!!! I don't even want to imagine what the kind of violence we endured during the 1960s would do to the climate and heart of our country... already severely stressed by economics out of control.

As I read all of these posts, my heart breaks. Brothers, Sisters, Please..The hatred I see here and the anger. Surely this isn't pleasing to the Lord and Saviour we are all professing.
The election is over. The issue now is praying for the man elected.
As my Father has reminded me today, the fear I feel for our country is not His will, either.
I am grateful for this article reminding me to Pray for President-Elect Obama. Regardless of his views, whatever they may be, he needs our prayers. Only God can know his heart.
But I will also be adding in my prayers, that the truth be revealed to our hearts. The truth that the anger, hatred and fear must be set aside; that we begin to treat each other with love and respect. That we come together as culturally diverse believers to pray for our country, it's leaders and all citizens.
I honestly never expected to see such words here...but I beg of you all to stop. On all sides. Please stop and pray.

Another thought - If these are truly the end times, the election of Obama may be God's will in bringing forth his end time plans. Could be that we never really chose this President at all.
We just don't know. We need to keep our eyes and ears open and pray.
One thing, though; being ugly and negative about it will certainly not bring forth anything positive. It was on the news the other day, that our government has commissioned 5,000 of our troops to deal with "civil unrest". Pardon me, but isn't this a job that the National Guard usually deals with? Why the special troops? Perhaps in anticipation of Obama getting elected? How much trouble do they expect? Did anyone hear more on this story?

THIS IS SPIRITUAL WARFARE...THIS man and all he has ever based his life on is evil.... we can also pray for him to be removed from office... as hard as it is for me I will also get to a point I pray that I can pray for him... this is not lets make nice guys... he was allowed to be elected for some reason... we need to be on guard and be in constant contact with the heavenly Father... he has already said he is reversing the ban on stem cell..WAKE UP CHRISTIANS... I just heard on the news that the Democrats have just asked the government for a huge amount of money to bail out General Motors. Speaker of the House, Nancy Pelosi, even hinted at legislation be passed to allow this if Bush doesn't go along with it, which he won't. Financial bailouts are traditionally reserved for financial institutions as a last ditch effort to save the Economy.

I also heard that people who are at least two months behind on their house payments will be able to refinance at a LOWER rate under the new administration! What about the hard-working, responsible people who paid their bills instead of blowing the bill money? No reward there, folks! Socialism is here! And the next administration will bring it forward full throttle! Wake up and smell the roses.

No matter what our comments or thoughts are the Word of God stands predominant and scripture is the ruler and authority of all things and we must pray for Barack Obama because scripture instructs us to pray. 2 Chronicles 7:14; Luke 18:1; 1 Thessalonians 5:17. Whether this man is Muslim, Rastafarian or whatever He maybe judgement belongs to God and prayer is for the saints and God will do the rest. Ezekiel 18:21, 33:19. Let God be the judge of this man anti-Christ or not we the Church the Body of Christ that walk in love has a responsibility to pray and let God have his way. John 3:16; 2 Peter 3:9

I have a very difficult time finding the will-power to pray for this man. I know as Christians we are required to pray for those in leadership. But this man stands for everything I'm against.
The most recent thing that has really upset me is the FOCA (freedom of choice act) bill that Obama say will be one of the first bills he will pass. I'm very pro-life, and I do not think it is right to make the tax payers pay for a complete strangers abortion. I'm a tax payer, and I want nothing to do with the act of killing an innocent child! To me this bill he is going to pass, is legalizing murder!
also, Obama wants to abolish the second amendment, and his having his birth records locked up.
for a man who claims christianity, the fruit of his life, tells differently. We as the American public have been deceived, I'm going to pray that the Lord will change Obama's heart, or that the next four years will be a wake up call for America. I'm not gonna lie...I'm scared for this country.

He that is without sin cast the first stone!!! Luke 15:7 (Amplified Version) Thus, I tell you, there will be more joy in heaven over one [especially] wicked person who repents (changes his mind, abhorring his errors and misdeeds, and determines to enter upon a better course of life) than over ninety-nine righteous persons who have no need of repentance. Whenever we judge we should judge righteous judgements and the only way we can do that is through the Word of God, that the yard stick that we use to judge. John 7:24 (Amplified Version) Be honest in your judgment and do not decide at a glance (superficially and by appearances); but judge fairly and righteously.

This is to jo on Nov.11; The First thing you need to do jo is to ask God to give You a Clean heart. You don't know anything about Obama but what you heard from others or what you read about him. God is the only one who knows Obama's heart not You. Everyone that saids Lord,Lord will not enter into the kingdom of heaven. So, if I was you I would make sure my heart is right with God before I doom someone else to hell. You hate monikers are always the first to claim you are a christian. John McCain maybe a christian and only God knows that. Why he's not baptized? Jesus was baptized. If it was good enough for God's only Son why it's not good enough for him? Yes, I do pray for Obama that God will give him the strength to overcome the persecutors like you. Before you lay down tonight, ask God to give you a clean and loving heart and not to be judgemental.

This is to Donnell, i'm sorry it is hard for you to pray for Obama. This tells me what kind of person you are.It is not right for anyone to take a life whether it's a unborn child or not. God said thou shall not commit murder. But it's not for Obama to make that choice whether you have an abortion or not. God never force any of his commandments on us. He said obey my commandments. It's up to the person to do what is right. Even a person who had an abortion can repent and ask God for forgiveness and make it in. You see Donnell, everyone got to stand before God for themselves. Not Obama, not you or me will speak for someone else.If you know someone who is about to do this ,it is your duty to tell them it is wrong in the house of God. But it still is their choice whether they do what you said or not. YOu have done your part as a christian. I'm quite sure there's alot of things in your life that's not on the up and up with God. We all need to take and inventory of our own life.

# RE: Why President-Elect Barack Obama Needs Our Prayers

All Christians should pray for the President of the United States, regardless of who it is. Furthermore, we should pray for those who helped to elect him. Let us consider who contributed to the election of Barack Obama. I will give 3 examples from my local newspaper:

One woman stated, "I will vote for Barack Obama because he is black and that means he's qualified."

A 25-year-old man who has voted in only one election stated that his first voting experience was "so forgettable" that he doesn't even remember who he voted for.

Another 20-something when registering to vote was asked what party he was affiliated with and wondered "What is Barack Obama?"

I daresay that the Founding Fathers of this country never intended for voting to be treated so casually. I wonder how many people who voted for Obama can explain what he stands for beyond "Change". It is tragic that people have so little respect for a man who has dedicated his ENTIRE adult life to serving our country.

Does anyone actually think Christians liked the Romans and Pharisees? The Romans demanded worship of Caesar. They would draw and quarter people who did not obey. They torched entire cities, murdering as many children, women and men necessary in order to conquer. Let's not even go into the Pharisees.

Had the internet existed would Paul have had to defend God's call to pray for those in authority? Can't you imagine. . .

"I'm not going to pray! The Pharisees got the Lord whipped, beaten and crucified. And their beating, imprisoning and stoning our fellow believers!" - Thomas of Galilee

"I never voted for Caesar to be ruler over Israel. He claims to be divine and demands everyone worship him! He is defiling everything that is holy in Israel. No prayer!"
- Simon the Nazarene

"Herod may claim to be from a Hebrew birth, but he's actually Roman. He cheats on his wife is a drunken lush and will sacrifice his own people to gain more power. You pray for him."

Frances - Since when does disagreement with stated policies equal hate? Many Americans disagree with Obama's stated agenda (which is why I did not vote for him), but few actually hate him.(Probably fewer than those who actually hate Mr. Bush) Sarah Palin doesn't, neither do I. God told us to pray for our leaders, and I will, that includes senators, congressmen, governors (Sarah Palin is a governor), mayors, etc. I will pray that Obama truly listen to and honestly consider opposing views, and that he will seek God's wisdom, rather than man's.

Everyone needs prayers but this is an issue of deserving and only God can determine that. I put this all in Gods hand, because when everything is said and done, that is exactly where it will be. If this man is the anti-christ as was written 2000 years ago, we cannot do one thing about it. With this exception. We can hold our heads erect and our hearts ready for Jesus said this must happen to usher in his Kingdom here on earth. so do not be afraid for he promised this to us. Yes times are going to be tough for "Christians" But was not it tough for our Lord. Lets gather together in prayer and rejoice for we are seeing with our own eyes in this 21st century, 2008, prophesy being fulfilled. We know by his promise he gave us signs of what to look for and what would have to happen on planet earth. We are seeing this, all of it, and we should replace all this fear with love and faith. For Jesus Christ is on his way to Earth....

Sister I wonder about you , are you sure you not the Antichrist. You not only sound stupid but ridiculous. If you know and understand the reading of God's word you would know that the Antichrist will appear in the east. That's why the Holy Bible says in James1:5, If ANY OF YOU LACKS WISOM, LET HIM ASK OF GOD, WHO GIVES TO ALL LIBERALLY AND WITHOUT REPROACH.And above all sister get understanding. Try reading the Book of Revelation to see what all has to happen before the Antichrist appears on the scene. And another thing Barack Obama is not a Muslim. All it takes is for the devil to plan a seed in the heart of those that calls themself a christian and it's in their heart for life. I pray for the whole world that we all come together and live according to God's Holy Word. That we'll be the children that he wants us to be.Stop beleiving everything you hear because you are baren false witness. I love you and may God bless you and ask him to clean your heart.

I'm sorry sister but I disagree with you about Sarah Palin. John McCain ran a very good campaign until she came on the scene. She constantly condemmed Obama from one thing or another. When that old lady got up and told McCain that Obama was a Arab he stopped her right there. That's what a christian does.Obama is a christian and he showed it in every way.He let her (Sarah Palin) called him everything but the child of God. But that's what God told us as christian to do, hold our peace and he will fight our battle. I beleive Sarah Palin has been saved but being a christian is a everyday struggle. You don't lay down your religion and pick up mud slinging and dirty tactics just because you're in politics. Nobody really gets it do they. Our Nation and government has become so divided. Our Nation has moved so far from GOD and his laws and this is something that has been going on for quite some time. If true and dedicated Christians knew what really goes on within our government, they would of thought GOD should of struck us down long ago. The mega wealthy of the world are in control our country. They care nothing about religion. They are their own gods. Bush was manipulated by these people and Obama will be also. They wanted someone like him to be the leader of our country. He will be easily influenced and controlled. He eventually will be held responsible for the downfall of our Nation. True Christians are way out numbered in our country. The desire for wealth and power and the worship of those who possess it is our biggest sin in this country. GOD BLESS those who resist those evils that are about to be bestowed upon us.

If he happened to know abortion is wrong..you're saying then he will be acceptable? No that doesn't make him saved or wiil get him to heaven. Pray for his soul even if he might be the anti-christ. Allegations became our truth as virtuous discipline wilted in starvation ... giddy we dived into the secret world of "sin-sharing", freed of inhibitions that normally counsels a moral soul... justifications poured freely from dark places as we clap in glee of another's imagined sufferings... a look a glance... he returned a beaming smile... as strange lights, enveloping took the place of our inner worlds... fear became warm and friendly as we cheered in all the right places... Thats from one of many young people on the net testifying why they are leaving the republican party... they feel dirtied by what they were encouraged to do by you. I have read all of your remarks over and over again, and it sounds like so much disagreement. The Black people want Barack because he is Black. The white people want him because he is a democrate. Does anyone see this man for who he is??? You have written that he won because God gave him this power. But I happen to know some disturbing facts. He is unpatriotic and refused to salute the flag, display the flag, or honor the national anthem. He has been directly linked to support terriots and he has had ties to a man that wants to destroy Israel. He professes that he is not a muslim, but refused to take his oath of honestly on the bible, and asked to use the Quaran. He also blatenly denounced the "sermon on the mount" The cornerstone of Christianity. He also had a "flawless campaine, and at one point McCain said it was like he was running up against God. So Im asking all of you who gives this man this power, is it God or is it someone else???

Yes. We should pray for both President Elect Obama and President Bush. What is truth? Truth about Obama? WEll I guess we would really need to speak to him directly. I am praying that he would have wisdom, Ephesian 1 prayer, How can someone sit in a church for 20 years that believes in the message of Salvation and it not get thru to his heart. I have also been praying for people in his life that he will receive from. The Word of God, in love. Media- ugh! It sure seems to destroy people. I would hate to see that happen. Alot of it is a waste of time. It's not a matter of color of skin. I pray that he will not lean on his own understanding but in all his ways that he will acknowledge Him. pray for unity for those in Congress, Executive office. I did not vote for him. But when he said, "for those who did not vote for me, hopefully I will earn your vote too.". Something like that. I like what people had to say. God's love is in us. As I read throught these comments, I'm particularly disturbed at some of the venom being written in the guise of scripture quotes. While I agree that Obama is NOT a Christian (pro-abortion, socialist ties, not against gay marriage, believing in more than 1 way to heaven, attending a church that doesn't teach sound scriptural doctirine...), he is our president-elect. The Bible is very clear that we are TO PRAY FOR OUR LEADERS to do God's will. There are no qualifiers as to whether we like them or agree with them. As far as Obama being the president of God's will, I think that is questionable. Israel had the perfect leader and demanded a king. God gave them what they wanted, and they got Saul. Is Obama our Saul? I don't know, but I do know that we need to pray for him and his administration to do God's will, whether we like him or not. As to him being the anti-Christ, the US is not described in Revelation or Daniel, so I doubt that a US president is the antichrist.

I understand that many of you are concerned about President-elect Obama's views on abortion, but it appears to me that you had selective hearing during the campaign. It was John McCain, NOT Barack Obama, who laughed as he sang "bomb, bomb, bomb Iran"! John McCain LAUGHED at the idea of murdering millions of innocent people, CHILDREN...is bombing innocent men, women, and children and laughing about it Christ-like? Or do you just not care because these would be Muslim Children? I remove children from abusive homes for a living. John McCain may care about the unborn, but he could care less about these same children once they are born...his administration would have further cut funding to save children from dying of illness, starvation, and abuse in this country, while Obama will help to save them. I just jumped in rather late in the game, but I read the entries above and I have some comments.
Like it or not, Barack Obama IS our president - live with it. I think it is wise to pray for him. He is after all, a human being, purports to be a Christian, and needs guidance, especially considering the position of authority that he is in. I am praying that, among other things, God forgive him for his sins, lead him not into temptation, deliver him from evil, and lead him in the paths of righteousness. (Would you really want it any other way?)
As for the antichrist, most people seem to misunderstand what the term means. The best article I have ever seen about the antichrist is called: "Nuclear Beasts of Revelation 13", and can be found at
http://sites.google.com/site/newinterpretations/Home/revelation-13
As for Muslims, I think we should pray for them too, and not point fingers at who we think are Muslims, especially at election time.

Gloria, your comment overall is fine, but your last comment is worrisome. True, Koran-following Muslims are NOT open-minded...they have but one goal....WORLD DOMINATION. Yes, we should pray for them....but it is the RESPONSIBILITY of all of us to educate ourselves - and our family adn friends as to what the true aims of Islam are - especially concerning this country. IF they achieve their goal - ALL CHRISTIANS will either 1) give in and give up their faith; or 2) be persecuted, most probably slain - (that is for those of us who refuse to give up our Faith and proclaim Allah as our god.)
Please! educate yourself on Islam....all Americans should do this! they don't want to live in peace side-by-side...they want to take over...Read Robert Spencer's books, esp. "The Politically Incorrect History of Islam and the Crusades"! This is NOT an opinion book...it is well annotated and documented - with quotes directly from Koran and other Islamic Surahs (teachings). LEARN THE TRUTH - URGENT!

If you know your Bible as christians should then you know that no house divided can stand. Let us becareful as a nation, and as servants of the Lord that we fall not into the hands of the enemy, but that we remember that we all serve one GOD! The will of our God was carried out on election day. Let us not second guess our Father in Heaven, but remeber that our salvation came with a price, and judgement is coming. Let us, the church do as God has instucted us to do, and not guestion the will of our Father, but to concern ourselves with healing not only as a nation, but for the whole body of Christ to be forgiven that we may stand at the day of judgement before our God, and know that we upheld his will, and prayed for that which was appointed unto us. Therefore, lets us pray that God's will be done on earth, and that we as believers in Christ stand united, and not divided. Let us becareful what we say, and how we act for the eyes of the nation are on us. 1 Corinthians, Chapter 1

In fact, in the aforementioned article, "Nuclear Beasts of Revelation 13", the author suggests that John could have been warning of the future religion of Islam when he described antichrists, because Islam claims that Jesus was only a prophet. Thank you for your reply. May God bless you!

# RE: Why President-Elect Barack Obama Needs Our Prayers

This is a trip. I'm black. I don't know if he's the antichrist. God didn't tell me that. I don't know: as far as I can see he's a human. And it says anyone who calls on the name of the Lord can be saved. Was I not saved when I professed Jesus and used to hate White people. Or had prejugdices in my heart, Well, then that means neither are the people on here who claim to be Christians and hate Black people. If you have issues with the man, it should be from a place of compassion. Don't you think if he's being led astray by false doctine, like many of us were he will be convicted by the Holy Spirit. WHy did he pick Rick Warren...oh he's just trying to appease Christians..I don't buy that. So did John Mccain, by picking Sarah Palin and the Mccain's still supported Abortion in cases of Rape and Incest. So who's the real Christian. I didn't vote for Obama because I believe God was trying to change the law on Abortion, but he's not God, so unless he's not a human, he can be used by God

# RE: Why President-Elect Barack Obama Needs Our Prayers

Wow, I just happened upon this blog several months after it started and I'm amazed! Do you really think you can bulldoze someone in to changing a belief? No, it makes people defensive and certainly does not entice them into the Kingdom. Unfortunately, the Republican Party has an image problem of arrogance and bulldozing--only representing the elite and ultra-wealthy. Remember, Clinton was so popular with "feeling our pain". Christians, also sinners, need to "feel the pain" of Christians and non-Christians--with a Kingdom purpose, non a self-righteous purpose. Of course we pray for our President, like we pray for others, with a heart like Jesus, not out of bitterness. We cannot pray with conditions but with a pure heart. (Kinda like forgiveness)
Why don't we join together, and by His grace offer grace? That is how others learn about God's, not man's, desire for our country. And that, is how we earn, not force, a majority vote, thus confounding the enemy!
