Send Your Condolences to the Family of Steven Curtis Chapman

The Christian world is mourning the tragic death of singer Steven Curtis Chapman's daughter, Maria Sue. The following statement has come from Chapman’s manager, Jim Houser:

“Maria Sue Chapman, adopted and youngest daughter to Mary Beth and Steven Curtis Chapman, was killed in a tragic accident in the family driveway on Wednesday evening. She was LifeFlighted to Vanderbilt Children's Hospital but for only reasons God can explain she went home to Him ... not to Franklin as we all so desperately wanted.

"Your prayers are needed for all in the Chapman family. This is a family who has so generously loved and given to so many. Just hours before this close knit family was celebrating the engagement of the oldest daughter Emily Chapman, and were just hours away from a graduation party marking Caleb Chapman's completion of high school. Now, they are preparing to bury a child who blew out 5 candles on a birthday cake less than 10 days ago. These words are unthinkable to type. And yet we trust in a God who was not surprised by this and because of Jesus I am certain through faith in Him we will see Maria again.”

Steven Curtis Chapman’s Web site has posted a special video diary in memory of Maria that you can access by going to:

When one member suffers, all the members suffer with it. When I read about your precious daughter in the paper today, it took my breath away and crushed my spirit. I am so sorry. I pray for your son as well. Though I am absent in the body, I am present in the spirit grieving with you, interceding for you. So very very sorry...In Christ's Love, Mimi

Dear Chapman Family,
As you mourn the loss of this little one whom God allowed to shine in your lives for such a brief time, know that He is with you through it all, and will never leave you. (I'm sure you already know, but it never hurts to be reminded). Comfort one another, with this: Isa 57:1&2 states "The righteous perishes & no man takes it to heart, merciful men are taken away while no one considers that the righteous is taken away from evil. He shall enter into peace; they shall rest in their beds, each one walking in their uprightness". I'm sure this applies to sweet baby girls as well...God is keeping her safe in His secret place & you will see her again. The Christian community is lifting you all up before our Father...

I know that this is a difficult thing and time in your life, but nothing escapes God. He has you and your family's times in his hand and he'll comfort you and bring you peace even as you grieve and rest upon him. Let his peace like a river attend your soul. It is well. Take heart.

Dear Chapman Family,
I attended the concert at the Myerson Center, Dallas, TX where I learned more about your adoption ministry. I watched as you introduced your sons and your adoptive daughters onstage. I was deeply moved by the obvious strong love that exists in your family. I was stunned to hear what had occurred and I immediately began to pray for your son specifically. I know that God will take this situation and use it not only to glorify Himself through the grace the world sees in your family but to also expand Shoanna's Hope beyond even your greatest dreams. May His peace and grace prevail in your hearts.
Sincerely,
LSA, Bedford, TX

Our beautiful daughter, also adopted from China, has expressed at the age of four that she wants Jesus to live in her heart. I believe that, even at this tender age, little children are drawn to our Lord and Savior. Your sweet Maria is one of God's little ones. Please be reassured that she is with Him now. God bless you and your family.

# RE: Send Your Condolences to the Family of Steven Curtis Chapman

In 2005, after a three year agonizing process, the Lord blessed us with a priceless gift, a daughter from China. I know our life changed forever on that day. She has become a daily evidence of God's love towards us as adopted children. Knowing, our love towards this child, I cannot begin to imagine the grief this family is experiencing, especially Maria's big brother.

As comfort to the Chapman family, I offer the amazing words my three year old daughter spoke to me, one extremely stressful day a few months back:

"Don't worry Mama.. God is here"

It is my prayer the Chapman family will experience this same reassurance- that His love and comfort will be tangible to them during these next very difficult days and weeks.

Our hearts are broken along with yours as we all mourn the loss of your precious Maria Sue. Take encouragment in the verse where God tells us that we grieve, yes, but not as those without hope. It's such an incredible blessing to know you will not be parted from Maria Sue forever...but just a short time until being reunited in Heaven. The nation is lifting you up in prayer. God's blessings to you and your family at this difficult time. In His great love, Jeanne

Chapman family,
It wasn't until August that I heard about the tradgety that happened with your wonderful sister, daughter, and friend. Just remember and be comforted in the fact that you are loved by the King of Kings, Lord of Lords, and someday, your baby girl will be with you in Paradise. She's there waiting for you. I just pray that in your grief, you will be strengthened. He will strengthen you through all of this. Somebody-no many people-will come to Christ as a result of hearing your story. I firmly believe that. Take comfort in the Lord and in each other during this difficult time.
Love you in Christ,
Kelsey Plummer
